Wow some kook tried to sue over getting hit with a surfboard. I wonder how many times he cut the guy off before this happened? http://hamptonroads.com/2011/09/va-beach-jury-sides-defendant-surfers-spat Thoughts?
it shows you how ridiculous and lawsuit happy society is becoming. it makes me sick to see stupid sh** like this
i dont understand how judges just dont throw out some of these ridiculous law suits at least the defendant won
I remember this story... IIRC the accuser dropped in so he got hit, but it wasn't clear if the leashless guy did it intentionally, or accidentally just by trying to avoid the snake. The more reason I don't surf at the oceanfront, I think this happened near the pier. *Correction, it actually happened at the Northend
I think this Harry Stoehr is likely a loud mouthed swellinfo member. Harry, you are a p*ssy!!!!!! HAHAHAH I FOUND HIM!!!! http://vbnightlife.com/profile/HarryStoehr?xg_source=profiles_memberList
post his pic at every spot and get people to shadow him in the water so he can NEVER catch any waves. eventually he will quit the sport.
Nice Pic! had me singing "I wear my sun glasses at night". Curious as to every ones thoughts on leash laws as I cant remember the last time I saw it actually being enforced.
they are occasionally enforced, usually just in the summer. me and 4 or 5 others got $75 tickets for it at the 62nd street pier last may. My friend took his ticket- wiped his ass with it and threw it on the ground. Then the cop wrote him another one AND a $200 ticket for littering. All 3 tickets stood up in court. Dumba**. I just paid mine and shook it off. I hate that surf spot now, probably because of that day. Surfing restrictions are just further proof that americans hate freedom.
Haha looks like George Michaels a little bit! Yeah I saw that this morning couldv'e just settled at the beach by talking to the guy. Didn't read that he was hurt. Saw a guy in the water at the north end with no leash last month, but he had total control of his longboard and was stepping off when the wave subsided, looked pretty cool I thought. He knew what he was doing.
Just spent three days in VA beach (downtown Oceanfront area) and the board i brought doesnt even have a leash plug in it. No leash on this board. ever. Ended up having fun waves every day, even some good ones saturday and surfed in a crowd on a sick peak. Side note: you guys are hooked up with sand bars down there...jeez. Best i've seen in 20 year going there. Back to leashless - lots of people ignoring it. on the couple of times it got away from me i did glance up on the beach for a beach patrol white truck or ATV as my board bounced in.
I've seen it in the summer at guarded beaches, but never to the point of tickets. Usually the guard will catch you on your way into the water and say "you need a leash". Every once in a while when one comes out on the paddle rescue board or rowboat, they'll snag you, asking you to get out and get a leash. I guess if you are a repeat offender, or refuse to get out, they might ticket you, but I don't have the energy to waste on fighting the lifeguard who is just doing his job, enforcing a rule he may not agree with either. I usually wear one even when not required, as a safety factor. I make every effort not to allow my board to get away from me, but every once in a while, it happens. If I have a cord on, then I don't have to worry about getting sued by someone looking for a payday at my expense.
You got that right. Sandbridge's sandbars have been looking amazing I can't wait for some swell to get on them
Im with ya and up until a couple of years ago when my wife enlightened me with the fact that we now own our house, cars and have a little stash in the bank and that a twenty dollar leash could possibly keep us from loosing it all. Kind of changed my mind.
+1 on the sand bars and dont forget we're still trunking it here but that might come to an end this weekend.
what a kook. ive been hit, my board has gotten severely damaged, snaked by people, etc but ive never even said anything to anybody. wanna know why? because fighting and yelling in the water gets you nowhere. (people might even gang up on you and snake ya even more. ive seen it done haha) and yea vb has been pretty good (on our standards) the last 2 weeks. something to ride almost every day. I wanna get one more big swell before true wetsuit season starts
I trunked it in Delaware three days this week. Water felt like low 70s or so warm air. But it was warmer down there last weekend! Maybe...but without a doubt ive nearly had my head chopped off more times by people ditching/losing their board that HAS a leash, than by leashless riders.
