Ophelia is back in action and anticipated to go hurricane status: This would send some fun sized SE swells from OBX northward for the weekend.
hahaha i guess not...but the forecast has been a bit less clean than forecasted for VA Beach. If you want, next time it calls for a clean day (can't remember off the top of my head the nexy day) check out some surfline cams and compare the forecast to what you see..size has been smaller than forecasted too. I know it probably isn't you, but the computer models yada yada yada but maybe you can look into it.
This is what we should all be talking about instead of Gruvi's broken board. What a pleasant surprise to see Ophelia rear her head again.
Welcome to VB bro. We are sheltered from a lot of the wind that plagues obx and Eastern shore but we are also tucked further inland (therefore further up the shelf) so the swells rarely have as much gusto as they do down south. IF swellinfo says chest high in VB expect the occasional chest high set. Now if swellinfo says chest high in rodanthe expect to see some drainers.
MS just gave 5 stars for VB Sunday. Haven't seen that since I left Hawaii...Overhead and clean...I'm not a meteorologist but somebody is probably going to end up looking like an idiot. Maybe I'll take that guy's job as a forecaster. He's way off.
Micah, let this be your example of my past post. Currently MSW is calling for 5 star overhead, Surfline fair-good stomach to chest, and swellinfo semi-clean to clean-knee occ stomach for VA Beach. Use surfline's cams to figure out the quality of the wave compared to swellinfo's forecast. I really think there may be something wrong with your forecast because the winds, quality and size have been off for the past two weeks. Surfline and MSW have been more accurate. :for VA Beach:
I think Micah posted once before that he updates his forecasts twice a day at 6am and 6pm. Maybe things will bump up on the next update?
I know magicseaweed generally sucks ass BUT it has been spot on the past two months when a decent swell comes, especially with Katia. Back that up with surflines forecast and I think we are going to be looking at a surprise fun ass day down here in va beach
hopefully they all match come sunday morning...I am comtemplating buying the membership for surfline because of the cams (not 1st street, but north and croatan). 1st street gets so packed it is unreal. There's a knee high wave with literally 30+ people on it...additionally there is no parking anywhere until after oct 31st the meters are turned off. Why pay for a knee high waves with 30+ people???
i made a mistake, so heightened forecasts were up there for about 10 minutes by accident... Still working on some upgrades that will resolve these long period situations. VB should be around 2-4 on this swell. VB loses a lot of energy on the long period SE swells due to the local bathymetry.
WOW, I think I was checking things during that... I'm like wooohooo, and then I'm like "did I see that, where did it go?"
ya, sorry about that.... the new upgrade will be in place soon... Like I said VB is looking at 2-4 range, bigger in obx or to the north.
