Has anyone been to Zancudo or Pavones? It is near the Osa Peninsula on the Southern Pacific side of Costa Rica.

It is amazing and I have some really great photos of that area. I can't believe how much it looks like Hawaii, and it is so much more affordable. I wasn't impressed with Jaco or some of the other more popular areas in Costa Rica. This region is also near Panama, which is fun to visit.

The drawback is that it is a 7 hour car ride from San Jose, but only a 1 hour flight in the commuter airplanes there. A lot of surfers rent a house for a month or more and it is not so expensive. The best thing is that it is safe.

    I do recommend this area.

    Vic,

I love Pavones. I have a house for rent just down form the point. I'd love to see some of your photos. I'm heading back down in a month.

did pavones as a day trip from dominical in august and really scored. ITs such an amazing wave, and yes, that area has the "real costa rica" vibe that you just dont get in surf towns like jaco, dominical, tamarindo, etc. Now that iv seen the whole coast, my next trip will definately be straight down to pavones for the duration. Even during rainy season the roads were AOK the whole way down, aside from some sketchy bridges. Got my eye on central nica as well...
