A week ago went on a surfing trip, long sessions.. Couple days later had real, real, bad pectoral muscle spasms, just on left side. Couldnt breathe all the way in, or even move when it really acted up. Immobilizing. Advil worked but started making me sick. Radiated to shoulder and arm for a couple days. This is the first day after about 7 where i dont need advil. It has all sort of subsided, but still sore. Anyone that has had this happen, let me know. Supposed to be some sort of waves tomorrow, i am a little sketched about going in. I doubt its cardiac related. Thanks!!! Jesse
Yes. I get a banding feeling surrounding the bottom of the rib cage. It's decidedly awful. But it doesn't radiate like yours does. You are sure it's not cardiac? It sounds like inflammation of a nerve either locally or in your spinal cord. Hence, Advil helped it.
Get a lacrosse ball and place it between the wall and your pec. Gently lean into the wall and massage your pec using the ball. Keep moving until you feel the affected areas. Be gentle at first. You'll probably feel it radiate down to your fingers. Also, stand with your shoulders perpendicular to the wall and put the bottom of your forearm flat against the wall. Take a small step forward with your foot closest to the wall and rotate your hips gently until you feel the stretch in your pec. I'm willing to bet your chest is too tight/strong and your upper back (shoulder blade areas) is too weak and comparably much looser. This makes your shoulders roll forward and in. This is pretty much a chronic posture issue people that sit at computers all day are faced with. It's also very prevalent in swimmers and paddlers. Loosen your chest and strengthen your back.
I agree, get your ticker checked. Otherwise Acupuncture can do wonders. Also, sounds like you may have not been drinking enough water. Dehydration impacts the muscles, and if they aren't functioning optimally, injury is more likely. Good luck, feel better.
Remove the steak knife from your rib cage, marry a nicer woman next time, one that allows you to surf on the regular. Maybe you are a girl cause u speak of advil often, in which case send pictures.
Are you a chick? If you are I'm sure a local SI member/medical advise expert will help you out with a pectoral massage. That should fix it... If you're a dude it's a heart attack for sure.
Thank you, sincerely. It cleared up real quick somehow without intervention. Turned out to be just a muscle spasm, rather than a muscle tear or shoulder injury, thankfully. Cool advice though. I will need it in the future.
Yeah, not cardiac. The nerve idea you had was interesting though. Turned out to be a spasm, maybe a nerve or two, but gone now. Deduced from the advil effects, nerve irritation. Sharp cookie we have here. Nice to talk to people who have some medical knowledge, not joking..
