Does anybody else think that one of the original Maverick masters and current WSL commentator Pete Mel has a hilariously offputting tone during his interviews and just talking to people at all on live camera? I just think he makes some of the surfers uncomfortable with his utterly direct and blunt approach, it's refreshing and authentic but it definitely is not gentle sometimes haha.
Definitely. Mel's in-ocean interviews are often great. The interview of Mick at J-Bay, immediately after Mick had his run-in with the great white, Fanning scrambled on board the boat & Mel asked him 'did you get a few shots in?'!? Good stuff!
petes the man.better than stienfeld or whatever his name is.plus he is a mavs original, not a pioneer, but a vet lol..good to see him get a job with the asp after all that craziness in the 90s lol
He has a great edge about him. The water interviews are cool...it's live action and emotion real time. When he was in the water at the chopes heat (Slater and JJF)....probably the best in water interviews I have seen. All the hype and it and he was there to bring it to me as I was a million miles away from the seen.
