It's not just candy, have you read the ingrediants of almost all the food you eat? You will find sugar in most.
I predict that the free market will be the driving force behind what ever fuel or energy source mankind uses. There is a huge financial reward for whoever develops the next energy source used by the masses. At some point, fossal fuel will become more expensive then its replacement, thus causing its elimination. Nothing will happen overnight.
In the mean time, all energy supplies must and are being pursued. This is a very complex issue and not one that can be solved without considering many effects on the environment, politics, economy, etc. Liberals live in a emotional fantasy world were everything is simple and there are no unattended consequences. Conservatives are in the pocket of so called big business. Politians only care about staying in power. So you see, it will ultimately be up to the consumer as everything revolves around the buck. So put your money were your mouth is and let's have a lot less lip service..............

Dumbfounded?????? DO YOUR PART, BUY OR INVEST IN WHAT YOU BELIEVE AND DON'T SUPPORT WHAT YOU DON'T FEEL IS RIGHT. DON'T EXPECT THE GOV. TO SOLVE EVERY PROPLEM, WHEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT WE THE PEOPLE ARE THE ONES THAT MUST ACT!!. If you don't think this is true, how come the sales of gas guzzlers have plumented and sales of more fuel efficient crossovers have skyrocketed in a matter of months. Consumers have forced a major change on just this one industry in a matter of months. My friend, the government could never work this fast. Multiply the power of the consumer buy every single business or energy use type in the world and you will find we as consumers have 100s of times the power of our elected officals. CAPITALIZISM WORKS.

One minor problem for you, if the majority of consumers don't agree with your position, then I guess you may just be in the minority and not feeling so good. But that's the way it goes in a democracy or should I say republic.

I get that! And I do my part by acting on what I believe in and even acting in the local gov't by going to our council meetings (even the "work-shop" ones). I was just dumbfounded that someone could think that our farmers are going to be out of a job growing corn (or anything for that matter) and that sugar and candy were going to take over. Food costs are up because demand is up. Thus, unless we magically make more land to farm on or our yields multiply exponentially over the next year...... they (the farmers) will be working overtime and become even more profitable then Layton Moore.

The point was that if farmers are growing corn or sugar or whatever for fuel, then there will be less crops for food. This will not doubt cause the price of food to rise, which in fact has taken place in the market already. Personally, if I have to choose to eat or drive, I will eat.
Man, this thread is way off subject now!!!

You are being very short sighted about the benefits of the space program. This is a quote from Wikipedia about what benefits were derived from the Apollo missions:
    Wikipedia Link to Apollo Article

In order to get back to the moon or even to Mars, there MUST be advances in fuel cell technology, the type of fuel cells that could possibly run your car one day.

Funding the space program is not a waste of money or the "status quo" as you state. Presenting the challenge of getting a manned mission to mars will result in scientific developments that will trickle down your your life and benefit you greatly.

Try to look at the big picture. Don't be so myopic.

What insanity island is doing is dumping a whole bunch of unknown materials into the ocean that havent been introduced before. They are putting crap into already polluted water. Noone know what affect it will have if any, but i think when its your home beach, like it is mine, you will know that you dont want a buncha **** washing up everyday, exspecially dead animal carcasses and hazardous material.
