Phish and rock band shouldn't be in the same sentence, unless ISN'T is sandwiched in the middle. But then again call it what you want.

Alright guys here's the deal. We can't listen to "the man" all the time. Who gives a f*uck what rolling stone says? It's about what's good and what's best to listen to before and after you go surfing. All I'm saying is that Phish is the best; they rip like how we do when we surf, and like what some of us do to bongs. I would like to address some of the more poignant replies.

For the bro who brought up a lot of good useful Phish information, thank you. I checked out that sh*t it's better than most Marley and all of Ziggy Marley. But your band sucks. Try to be more of a jam band I think you guys would really rip if you did. The talents is all there, just abide by the three e's--Explore, Experiment, and take E. Your band will flourish like never before

For the bro who called me an egocentric homosexual. I don't really know what you mean by egocentric, or if that is just another homosexual reference, but what's wrong with homosexuals? I believe we can all live in harmony and accept the fact that God made some bands better than others, namely Phish.

For the bro who said he bets I smell great, I do smell great, I smell like the finest headies from New Hampshire.

For all the other bros that posted useless garbage on my thread. This thread is a serious discussion of the greatest rock band of all time, so please don't waste our time.

Hahahaha.....nice. That would be a great video game, Grand Theft Auto style. Sound track would be hard core thrash and death metal.

    Peace maaaaaaaaaaaan!

    Pokesmot420:

You make very little sense my friend. First you say, "Rolling Stone has called The Beach Boys 'the worst band ever created'..." as if this statement is justifying the point you are trying to make.

Then you turn around and say, "Who gives a f*uck what rolling stone says?" when apparently they are not saying what you thought they were, again justifying your point.

I too like phish (and have been to quite a few of their shows) although I hardly think that they are the greatest band ever (that statement alone sounds as though it would come out of the mouth of a 16 year old). They are good and they have talent, no doubt. But to slam the other bands that you mentioned makes you look very ignorant when it come to music. Not to mention you missed the key fact here which is music is subjective and the word "best" only applies to tangible things such as contests and the like.

And Jack Johnson is so much more than a musician. If you think about it, he is the renaissance man of this generation (in my opinion anyway). He transcends generations and his talent reaches into many other forms of media successfully. As a matter of fact, every single band that you trashed has in some way actually forged the way for phish to become the band they are today.

I don't know dude, perhaps you should just make your case with the disclaimer that is is of your personal opinion since you can't provide any measurable way to prove your point. I mean I guess you could look at record sales although phish would certainly fall short in sales compared to most of those bands you named.

    pokesmot420,

You may be surprised that people have different taste in music, and might not all agree that Phish is the only great music to listen to.

You, fine sir, have just been elevated to the level of "smartest and best taste in music" on this whole forum. And I'm not just talking about Mid Atlantic Surf Talk... we are talking "USA Mainland" buddy.

Kyuss is my absolute all time favorite band. They friggin rock, man... incredible stuff to listen to before you paddle out.

But wow... trying to pick music that is great to listen to is so friggin subjective. My last few sessions have all been different. I usually crank my headset while changing over to my wetsuit but the music is always different... White Zombie "Black Sunshine" one day, Stephen Marley "Iron Bars", Rev. Horton Heat Red "Rocket of Love", Lil Jon another session, Foo Manchu or the Eagles of Death Metal on another day. Hell, I love listening to Hank 3!

Fvckman... to claim one band the best over another is so subjective. Most bands out there have at least one good if not great song. To even say one form of music is better than another is purely biased based on personal taste.

WTF really cares what a magazine says? Who cares what other people think of what you listen to? Listen to what makes you stoked. Although I do dig respect the view of Rolling Stone regarding their opinion that Talking Head's Fear of Music is one of the top three abums of the eighties. I believe number 3. Personally I think it should have been number one. But it's music. All subjective.

most definitely not. if it weren't for Chris Whiteworst, i really don't think he/they would've done what he/they did.

WTF? Whiteworst? Oh, you must be talking about Toshes reference to Chris Blackwell? Yeah?
In my opinion all he did was create resentment and cause the Wailers to become Bob Marley and the Wailers, and Peter and Bunny went their seperate ways soon after Blackwell signed "Bob & the Wailers".

He refused to sign Bunny & Peter. He put together the Bob Marley image and distributed it throughout Europe and then America.

Hmmmm... not the way that I heard & read it. I can't say 100%... I wasn't there. But from the way I heard it, Bunny was getting on in the years and tired of touring and Peter was wanting to take his music in a different direction anyway... Peter & Bunny both didn't want to do any touring for awhile and Blackwell took advantage of the weakness and strain in their relationship at the time to woo Bob into "being the man with the band" instead of another member of a group.

Either way, it's all rocking and good music man. You seem like a rocker, you allright.

By the way.. Mind Control from Marleys son Stephen was one of the best "spawn of Marley" albums in awhile. In "Lonely Avenue" I really thought he sounded like his dad.

Can't say I agree, and I like Phish. There is alot as far as being the best, you have to have solid albums, a healty touring life and good performances, and a strong taste of originality. Phish just fails in the recording aspect. I think people have to agree to some extent with me on that. The Dead had it all I think, but in the same breath I wouldn't call them the best. I honestly don't know where to start on who's the best, there are sooo many people and bands that are just incredibly good.

I can't believe people are coming down on Sublime, you guys have got to be young. Yeah, they may be heavily influenced by a few different genres, but they were the **** not too long ago.

    I am old.

    Sublime sucked and always did.

They were nothing but a cover band, nothing more. They had no ability to come up with anything of their own.

Just curious..... are you a PHUKING idiot? (Ph in the spirit of the Phish thread)

And whoever led off this thread with "Phish is the greatest rock band ever" can also refer to the question above. A hippy jam band that picked up the slack after Jerry tipped over early.... to say they are the greatest of anything is a joke within a joke.

If I remember correctly. Rewind Selector is a 102 track Best Of Sublime album and every single track is a cover. And they actually credit the original artist this time. It took someone to die before they let that one slip...LOL.

And to think. You guys were duped the entire time.
