Download GIMP photo editor. It's the best freeware photo editor I've used. Can resize and do minor editing in GIMP. If you wanna do serious editing, you're gonna have to pay for some software, or download some cracks.

To get pictures to show up directly in the post instead of having to click a link, you have to have the pictures on another website (flickr, photobucket, imageshack... etc). Once they're uploaded there, grab the link to the photo itself (http://<website link>.jpg - MUST be .jpg/.gif file extension).

    After you have that type
    Code:
     [img] <paste that link here> [/img]

    Re-sizing

Photoshop, usually size less than 6.0 mb by dropping the dpi to 200 and setting the width to a standard 8in. File sizes typically come in at around at 3.8-5.24mb. Any bigger and you'll get an error message, any smaller and you'll lose detail and resolution quality. The nice thing about Photoshop is you can tweak levels and curves as well as color cast. The idea is to maintain detail in both your solid black and solid white areas without blocking anything up.

You're trying to find a happy medium of tone, exposure and contrast. It's largely a personal preference thing, and I like shots to have a little pop and saturation. I use the Adobe Color set for my in-camera setting.
