What's up you heathens (and Betty)? I don't know about you guys but I really get pumped for the Pipe Masters. Not so much the contest itself (points, crown etc). I just really enjoy watching the best surfers surf such an awesome wave....Especially when it is pumping classic and legit Banzai Pipeline. Anyway, it starts tomorrow (window) and I was checking out the set up and they had this article on Slater's run. It's really remarkable what he has done and the article has all kinds of stats and historical notes. I can't help but pull for him this year and I hope he hangs in until the very end and gives some of the groms (relatively speaking) a run for their money! http://www.worldsurfleague.com/post...ipemasters-still-dominant-or-just-still-going
HAHA I don't get into pro surfing very much but when you look back on his entire career and where he came from it's pretty mind boggling. GOAT without a doubt.
It's an amazing spectacle I've enjoyed watching since ABC's Wide World of Sports used to broadcast it each year, maybe since the late 60s? I remember being a kid watching it in my Grandma's living room on the big console color TV. Pipeline is such a beautiful wave, and when a surfer comes flying out of the death barrel with the spit, that is awesome. And don't get me going about Backdoor, Slater has ruled that since he was a grom. He can just magically sniff one of those shallow hollow rights out, and somehow find the doggie door.
I think if he wins he retires on top. If he loses, he'll probably have a hard time retiring if he's still competitive and maybe comes close to winning. I have no idea though.
Yeah me too. I'm sure that's subject to change. It's hard to let go when you've been doing it for so long, especially when you're still better than most everybody.
what??!! u guys are scaring me with this slater retirement talk. its going to suck to see him go. it all depends on the waves if slater has a chance or not.he's not as versatile in the small wave game as he was 10 yrs ago,but if its solid and pumping he will probably win. after slater retires I see the rise of the Brazilian storm over the next 10 yrs.they will dominate and nobody else is going to win.every year its some Brazilian guy getting the best waves out there
the Brazilian Fart is dead. it was a fix by WSL to gain market in Brazil. Guys like JJF and the young aussies are going to own the tour for the next 5 years.
Wait a minute, these guys are just getting short rides ending in beach break closeouts - they could have done this in MA?
