My friend owns a surf shop here in South Carolina and has a house in Playa Grande between the Rip Jack Inn and the Bula Bula hotel at the river mouth between Playa Grande and Tamarindo. Check it out here: http://casadeamigoscr.com/ Great break up towards Rip Jack and good all along the stretch of beach. He has a beach access right in front of his house. Fly into Libera airport and its a 30 minutes easy drive. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll set you up...Pura Vida bro!
And this isn't a "SECRET SPOT"!!! Everyone who knows anything about Costa Rica can tell you this unlike some dweebs that post crap on other threads...nothing is "SECRET" with the internet! We are all here to help each other out cause we love to surf!!!
when i was there 6 years ago at Grande i surfed it a bunch. it was solid and consistent everyday if other spots were flat, but there was almost always a "crowd" on it. usually pretty spread out though. other guy had right idea, fly into liberia take a 30-45 min ride to tamarindo and you are a 15 minute walk to playa grande
also, tamarindo is a pretty good place to base out of- pretty close to most of the best spots in northern costa rica. boat rides to witches/ollies are easily accessible, 2 hours from guiones, very americanized but you can get away from that pretty quick. cheap hostels and nice hotels if that is your thing.
