Regardless of whether it is a hobby or a business, it is best to maintain some control over the use of those images. A hobby can morph into a business and photos can be used for purposes with which the owner does not agree.

I guess it was “the credit” aspect. Sounded like it would be okay to use pic if credit was given. If it’s a hobby, I personally would not be to concerned. But, agree that if you are striving for a monetary result from your hobby then protecting your merchandise is paramount.

One thing is for sure, people who misuse my shots will never see another shot of themselves or any of their riders from me.

Not gonna read this entire treade.

    Just suggesting watermarks.

Poaching happened to my firm's pics until we watermarked our photos.

Photos for which we paid a comm'l photog decent coin to produce for us.

Sounds like a good practice. I saw a pic of me on a wrightsville beach photog’s site from a good day in Rodanthe. Contacted him and paid him $20 for the shot.

I think you shoot some quality pics and could definitely sell some of those shots. At the very least, it will pay for some of your camera gear!

You gotta love what you do and accept the fact that some people are Jerks, just remember if you can see an image it can be stolen, hard to get past print screen and cropping out the watermark unless you want to ruin a good image with a full size watermark in the background.

That was the money shot. The wave shut down after that. The waves were actually terrible when I took this picture.
