Who's been surfing lately in NJ? I haven't surfed since Sandy, other than a weekend trip to NC a few weeks ago. I was out volunteering, but haven't been in the water due to the sewage factor. Anyway, it seems like the water is testing ok in Monmouth County now so I'm planning on getting back out on Friday. Just curious if others here have been surfing regularly or holding off due to water quality. I got a brand new winter suit and the last thing I want is to have it smell like **** after its first session.
I have surfed prolly 10 times or so since sandy, and everything seems ok. I have only surfed the lbi area, and the water seems clean, but I'm not sure about monmouth county. I think you should be ok as far as water quality goes, but the sand bars where I go area pretty crazy now. At low tide you can have a football game on the sandbar.
Surfed Black Friday in MOCO. Water seemed fine, a few pieces of small debris. Sand bars are whacked out.
My favorite breaks have only gotten better since the storm. Thanksgiving swell hit every spot perfectly.
Northern Monmouth .... ummm...ssshhh! Okay, yeah sandbars are .. oh not sure. Early 90's were good. Wonder how the AC of engineers are doing? ;P

hey are the sandbars good or no? or is it where its perfect at certain times and under surfable at others? thanks i really wanna know how the beaches are
Thanks guys, I'm going to get out tomorrow and try and find a spot that's working. I guess I'll check my normal spots first and see what the sand is like. Searching for a good sandbar isn't what bothers me, it's the sketchy water quality, but others have been surfing and the tests look good (thanks LBCrew!) so I guess I'll give it a go. I need some water time!
there are few if any sandbars. The bottom is scoured out. The waves seem to break on flat bottom vs. Sandbars. The beach is so flat now in most spots the waves break further out as well, as they make contact with flat bottom vs. sandbars.
