Local "pro's" and the ultra-dank underground "too cool for school" types. Tourons on soft tops don't bug me at all. No competition for waves, but they can be bothersome trying to dodge them on the inside sections.
they're even worse dealing w/ them in a shop, if you can believe it. such an entitlement mentality! btw: why can we only pick 1 category to hate on??
Sups Kayaks Little kids that rip The kids are usually super obnoxious, always moving and trying to get into position and have a "tough guy" father that tries to block for him. Hate it.
SUPs terrify me. But I've actually been injured by a grom/kook shortboarder. And I'm not too fond of longboarding geezers who kick off the board at the end of a ride and let it fly, and ought to know better.
i chose paddle-battling wannabe rippers b/c they far out number all the others & easily ruin a session w/ their antics, but SUPs & kayaks in the line up are terrifying & just plain dangerous. the others, in my experience either don't stay out long (old man loggers) or self-regulate pretty quickly & aren't worth noticing.
You left out the group of boneheads from DE, MD, and VA that do stepoffs from the ski on head high waves. Most of them surf good enough to drop the ski. Sorry guys but you should know better.
One of my boys I surf with is a big fella as well. He wiped out one day and I was coming straight at him. I turned and he got out the way. When get got back out he said "holy sh*t, so that's what it looks like when I'm flying straight at someone!". I avoid the crowds so the tourons are what annoys me. I carve out a nice lil peak to myself and sure enough here comes a whole pack of them, slogging their fat arses straight out towards me. Oh well, such is summertime. Things get so much better before Memorial and after Labor day.
Same, and for me hands down that is when we're surfing several hundred yards from the nearest group, we're clearly friends sharing a sesh on our own, and two guys (it seems like its always guys and they seem to come in pairs) walk down the beach clearly eyeing up the peaks, stare at us for a bit, paddle out and line up right next to us miling and acting like its all good. SUPS are a close second.
WBF, you nailed it! The tools on the piers who don't go more than 20 yards from the beach to fish, and the pier is 300 yards long, and they get mad cause we are surfing where they are fishing. Get a boat, or go out to the end of the pier. And those LLBean posterbouys who have six lines set up a peak away, downdrift from the main peak everyone surfs, and then hey get all pissy when someone drifts into their lines, and they never catch anything because they have no idea where to fish. SUPs are next on my naughty list. The ones that can't surf are a hazard, and the ones that can surf hog all the set waves on days when it is small and inconsistent, so by the time another set comes around, here they are, on the soft ass peak AGAIN! Everyone else on the list is more of an entertainment factor than an aggravation. Oh, Jetskiiers! They are loud, smelly, dangerous, and dirty. My buds tow into bigguns. If you can paddle in, please leave the gas guzzling, oil burning beast at home. If you can't surf, and just like to jump waves, go down the beach a mile or so away from all the rest of us folks who enjoy the ocean's natural beauty. One of these days...things are gonna get ugly.
May you please just add this guy to the list of options? I believe he crosses into every category besides SUP and would win in a landslide.
Not on the list, but fisherman who set up and start fishing where people (swimmers, waders, or surfers) are already in the water.
Yes. If you're there first I won't crowd your lines. Should be the same if I'm in the water first. Respect. That and as sisurfdog mentioned, the ones who don't tend their lines and let them drift 100 yds down the beach. And leaving all kinds of trash around. Hooks, f'ing fillet knives? Really? Kids running amuck all over the beach and this crap is left around.
