http://www.floridatoday.com/story/n...nt-proposed-sebastian-inlet-florida/97003436/ This could be interesting. Depending. Have you ever been to a pro surfing contest? Is it fun, or is it a real zoo?
I attended the Quik Pro in France in 2007. Even though the crowd was a few hundred it wasn't a zoo. In fact it was pretty awesome. The waves were heavy though. BTW hasn't the Inlet had contests before?
It was in the local paper and got my curiosity up. Its supposed to be a higher level pro than in past. And more female pros too. It's not a done deal yet, but fun to think about. Could be fun to take the whole crew of ten surfergirls and hang out to watch. Unless the waves are perfect and then we would just skip it and go surfing at a different spot.
When the world tour came to LB i passed. I thought it'd be cool to see the pros surf a break iv surfed for years. But the waves were good. I forgot what cane swell it was but it was good and i went surfing. No one was out. Seeing slater do that air and the whole slater owens heat would of been cool if there was nothing else to do i guess. But if there was nothing else to do, that would mean there are no waves. I don't know. Seeing the video afterwards was enough for me didn't have to see it in person. Got some really good waves that day too. On a side note. I was working with a girl who had some internship or somthing. She was doing slaters grocery shopping. Everything had to be organic. Knowing i surf, she gave me the dirt. Said he was nice, but a major pain in the ass
Yeah the Stubbies and Waverider Pro events were held at Sebastian a few times. I think the Aloe Pro was at Smyrna a few times as well. Back then, those were actual stops on the world pro tour, this is a Qualifying Series event. It will be interesting to see what the waiting period is. The pro events on the east coast always seemed like they were in the middle of the summer and even with a week-10 day waiting period conditions ended up being too small so the pro tour bailed on the east coast in the 1990s, wisely. That NY event a few years ago was a freak!
they used to have a qs at Sebastian back in the late 90s if I remember right.it was called king of the something.don't know why they stopped but hey florida isn't that good but neither are half the other contests they run
Maybe it morphed into Average Joe Surf contest at first peak Seb Inlet? Or maybe that's a separate entity?
King of the Peak Sebastian Inlet used to be extremely consistent thus they ran contests all the time. Every once in a while a swell would line up but mostly waist or below. They also used to run pro contest in Virginia Beach. Thousands would show up but I can only think of waves a few times. I found it interesting to see how pros surf these waves. Then again, you could see pros at Sebastian Inlet any day of the week. I swear florida has an abnormally high number of legitimate rippers.
You know....iv never found Florida all that appealing. Talking from a living stand point. Not hating on Florida. Just am happy up in NY and Florida is still the east coast right? So wave wise, just as much as a crap shoot as up here. In recent years Florida has been looking more and more appealing wave wise.
