Mick's my guy, but I've been a fan of CJ forever - - and no one gives the better post-heat interview! By all accounts a humble guy who everyone on the Tour likes. Great to see him nail that 10 yest at Chopes, in this his final season.
Slater pulled another one out of his arse at the last minute. I too like CJ but disagreed with the announcer in the last heat on his strategy. You can't sit on the inside picking off 3-4 point rides with Slater in your heat at Chopes.
I am pulling for Kelly at this point and agree with the 9.77 NYJ. Hopefully the waves/conditions are better
9.77 is the new 9.10 it was the best wave of the heat and was like the ole kelly pulling it out of his arse at the end
I was watching most of those heats yesterday and was kind of puzzled by the scoring...some of the 9+ rides struck me as overscrored. Including both Kelly's and CJ's...both of whom are guys i've loved for 20+ years. It seemed like the conditions had gotten so sketchy that the normal Teahupu scoring criteria (biggest heaviest set wave, most critical section, clean exit from deep) were kind of overlooked. I actually thought Bruno Santo's wave might have been the heaviest of the bunch, bigger and heavier than Kelly's, CJ's, or Medina's waves that were scored higher. But we know its subjective...and CJ did manage to sit back in the foamball for about 3 seconds..so thats pretty unique.
Eh idk, dudes, I think JJF should've taken medina and got the waves that kelly and gaybriel are on now. That's some b.s. I just really dislike medina and the way his face is arranged... It's begging for a brick, to my mind. Roostery fock.
Nah... Medina's wave was definitely better than JJF's in that heat. I don't like the kid either, but he won the heat.

Medina is such a poor sport, didn't even congratulate, or even acknowledge Jeremy Flores in the waning seconds as they sat elbow to elbow. Not surprised. No class. Flores whupped him good. On small Chopes.
jeremy really worked for that one. I don't think many other people would have even attempted, much less actually dropped in on, that wall of apparent close-out. Barely made it over the ledge, offshore wind was so heavy. $100K slide.
