    Hey everybody, a quick question.

I will be heading to Puerto Rico with my wife tomorrow through Wednesday and I see the forecast around the rincon area calls for some pretty sizable surf. My wife surfs, and wanted to surf with me, but definitely isn't capable of 8 - 12 foot faces. What spots, if any, will have less size in this swell? I would hate to have traveled all this distance and have her sit on the beach.

aguadilla bay is what im told. either way there are places where it will be considerably smaller, just ask any of the surf shops

Are you staying in the NW part of the island? Sandy Beach can get heavy when Marias, Domes, and Tres are going off, but she'd be able to surf the leftovers there and it's a sandy bottom if she does happen to get in a little over her head. 20-30 min N to Aguadilla was always fun head high when it was T/O and the only guys out in Rincon were tow in surfing. You really can't go wrong on that side of the island. Lucky you. I'm in Orlando for the Surf EXPO. I should hop a plane =)

Go to Crashboat. But go on a weekday in the morning while school is in session. You can also watch the crowd at Gas Chambers while there.

If you want to drive to the metro area, you can try La Bomba or Pine Grove. The outside reefs protect those two spots and provide fun waves with the swell that makes it through.

I shot down there for a strike on hurricane Igor and when I got to wildo, it was triple overhead so I had to look elsewhere. We found a spot that I think was called schoolyards down in south aguadilla. There is a scenic lookout on the southbound #2 that you can see if its breaking, its the only lookout around across near from the big sports staidum. Just go there and look down to your right and you should see it. It was like 2-4 ft and fun. I don't think crashboats or gas chamber will be doing there thing as this swell is NNE and it takes NW for those to fire. Also in Rincon you can go to little malibu off the rocks south of Tres.

Bridges and schoolyard in Auguada when it is big are great spots.
They are beautiful peeling rights that is not as hard breaking like Maria's when other spots are more sectiony this wave peels perfect in the same spot almost every time. Does have a local vibe so respect the boyzz and girls in the water.

When you see the wall you know your in the right spot, paddle out at the south end where there is a little beach.

^^ be careful when going into aguadilla city though, there is a huge parking lot at the bottom you can park at but don't leave anything valuable because you wont be close to your car. Everywhere that is facing NW-W should be smaller and cleaner than the N facing beaches. So CB, GC, Bridges, and School Yards are all good. If youre looking into Rincon then head to some of those southern spots. Little malibu will probably be sick but its real shallow.

hey marksharky I think I met you quite a few years back when heading to PR. You take some quality photos for surfers right? I think I still have your business card. Those two pics are yours too Im pretty sure, saw them on MSW.

any time you can score schoolyards when in PR you should. its an incredibly fun wave. i think its a rare bird that only breaks when its huge everywhere else. Its a real score to get it when you only are there a week.

    good luck!

Yep, Aquadilla town. School Yards, Bridges, Rompeolas. Was just down there. When Wildo's was DOH, Aquadilla
was chest to shoulder. Get out early to avoid the crowd, or catch the evening session, right before dark.

Just watch out for poo in the lineup. Schoolyards and Bridges are filthy when it rains as all the runoff from Aguadilla drains into the bay. They can also get pretty crowded, particularly Bridges but on the DP should be fun.

NOTE: The LOLA data in the "Detailed Regional Forecast" and "Surf Height" sections below is keying off of ENE trade swell that WILL NOT IMPACT NW PR. As such, please disregard this info and always remember to use the human, written forecast as the final word (colored boxes and written discussion at the bottom of this page). Our technology teams are aware of the issue and working on a solution. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
What do you think about this moderator? You guys are showing the swell and their models are showing it but they are saying it won't hit. I know a NNE swell will sometimes wrap in as long as there is more N than NE.

There isn't west in it to get it into the bay so I highly doubt gas will go off but I could be wrong. I'd look in aguada....

Maria's on Dec. 23. It wasn't so much the size of the waves that made things difficult, it was getting through all the soup from the waves.

Yeah that's when you have to head down to steps and paddle out, work your way North to the point. Tough going.. Auguada was probably good.
