where can one find a smaller wave in Rincon Puerto Rico when Marias is too big. Are there are beachies south or north that will be smaller?
Check out little Malibu; at the marina just south of tres palmas. Tres Palmas will be double overhead + and little Malibu will be chest high. But it is pretty shallow coral.
Yup, and you will be there with about 900 of your best friends, all on one peak. Have fun. Edit: On second thought, just stay home--don't go to PR. You might get raped......
Isabela when Maria's is too big? OK, sure. and Aguadilla, maybe not 900 of your best friends, but 500. One of these days I'll try posting a panorama pic to better illustrate. Cheers
Anytime the swell is pretty strong from the north those spots around the corners (as mentioned above) do well but the crowd (also mentioned above) is a problem. This is the best time to do some serious searching and even if you end up not finding what you want you will have a much better perspective of certain spots and their tendencies.
There are a couple of spots south of Mayaguez, I know, never reveal a secret spot, but two rivers empty at the coast and they will have a perfect left. I checked one out last year and it was rideable but not quite big enough. It has to be damn big in Rincon to work, and then it'll be 3+ ft. But the water was yucky black and full of crap...and we know there's no pollution in these rivers, they're pristine. They will only break a couple times a year maybe..
Second that little malibu will be the place. Last year when Tres was going off, little malibu was doing a fun little novelty of a wave. see pics for evidence
I always wondered about that area, drive by it a lot and figured with the right swell angle it would get good but never gave it a shot, always stay close to the point.
Yep, drinks are cold and inexpensive, and one of the few places you can catch an NFL football game without taking a big hike somewhere in town
