When I surf for almost two hours straight, my pop-ups get sloppy. So, I decided to do push ups everyday and went on youtube to see if I was doing them right. Well, it looks like I'm not. I can't do a push up if I touch the ground!! I'm fine otherwise. Not sure how this will affect my pop-ups and overall physical training. Does it really matter? I decided to follow the approach on the video posted below. So far, my shoulders are a bit sore but I'll keep at it and hope I don't injure myself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqHg-aaUQzI
I work on reps getting to feet in the gym all the time. Doing it smoothly throughout a session is a direct result of conditioning. If you're sloppy getting to feet then your timing will be off and that can swiftly end your session or at least make it very hard to deal with. I do my reps while laying on and pushing off a versa pad to mimic the lack of stability with a board planing on water. I also do push-ups on a Swiss ball for the same effect. These help drastically and the reps of foot placement on the exercise is not to be discounted either. I'm big on this type of training in the gym. I also use versa discs to train Ollies. Such a big impact.
Burpees would ruin my day a few years back. I ran D3 Cross Country/Track and they would have us do 400m burpees - one lap around the track. Nothing but burpees. No doubt that helps for surfing though!

likin' what I see here blasters..... 1,300 posts & the hate is unabated.......just don't kid yourself on the HOTY14 award, even if I did rip spicoli a new one a few weeks ago.
Bro I'm rubber you're glue. We are months past any possible reprimand. I don't even think we can effectively break each other's ballz unless one of us had a major faux pas. I'm coming in hot on 4k posts. When do I get the check for advertising dividends?
Not so sure about the chicken wing method. I'll keep on doing my diamond and normal push up reps!! I'll throw in some burpees, but not too many. I also plan on staying in the water for more than 2 hours and I'll try to catch as many waves as possible. My other goal is to get my courage up to take off on bigger waves!
Queen of the wind chop - make sure you do dry land reps getting to feet as well. They're more valuable than push-ups although push-ups will be a necessary fundamental of that movement too. If you want to get better on getting to feet then you practice getting to feet. The explosiveness involved is much more intense than a push-up alone and there are many other full-body components you'll be missing if you just do push-ups only.
Ask for advice & then dismiss it out of hand. Perfect. Go back to your foamie. Wait a sec...aren't you the angry beaver who blew up surfing breaks on this Forum....?
Yankee - I cherish your advice and will chicken wing it for your sake. And yes, I blew up a surfing break, but not because I was angry. I just couldn't believe that I could surf nearby and not have to drive 40 minutes down the coast to find surf. It seems like Delaware goes out of their way to ruin their beaches with beach replenishment BS projects.
Stay in Delaware. Practice your chicken wing. Paddle around at IRI north side, praying for swell. The only good thing about IRI is the parking lot. Join Del Surfrider. Whatever Mitchell says: do. No help to my HOTY14 campaign, but I will refrain from calling you the angry beaver.
thanks for that concession. between julia and 'queen mum'....thats all we have. FLY A BANNER FOR TREATING THE DISTAFF SIDE IN A TEFLON-ESQUE MANNER!
