I'm heavy, so tend to need bigger fins. Looking for recomendations. Board is on the way, and this kind of shape is a first for me. Will be in the 6' range.

Will have FCS 2 system, but I'll be buying those inserts so I'm fine with standard FCS fin recomendations too.

Anyone with some experience riding these and/or making these that can assist? Thanks.

I don't think anyone will respond unless you start this with "Dear SI"...

hey gaff. THanks. Yeah never tried them but the surfernet has good reviews of JJ fins.

    these....

... seemed more like the xanadus you posted and more of a mini sim style - almost controller-esk I think

Best set of fins I placed in my Simmons were speed dialer fins--similar to the controller but I believe the can't is a bit different.

kinetik racing parko quad - i think they make it in FCS versions? i run futures, but this quad setup is so good for a bigger guy. ive used controllers, and they are neat but just too tacky for my preference

i ran PG-7s up front w/ PC-3s in the back on my old 5'8" bing puck. just picked up a new one at 5'4" this afternoon & will be running basically the same thing. as a bigger guy riding a board w/ a really wide tail, i feel like more fin area is needed; the fronts & the rears are very close in size.

edit: i'm pretty sure the fcs 2 performer series fins are the same template as the M series fins in the original fcs system.

I only use controllers in the very smallest/weakest waves...in better waves, they can be hard to turn if you don't do the turn just right.

In better waves, I use big twin fronts (future T1) and the controller rears. The twins are very upright and have a tight/predictable pivot.

...of course, there's a point when the lack of rocker on a sim-shape is going to get you no matter what fins you have.

You really do not need the FCS II inserts/adapters to use standard FCS with FCS II boxes. All you need is the grub screws, they will hold the fins in place. The inserts just fill in the little space.

How do you like the XBox 4's? I have the Stretch Buzztrollers from Fins Unlimited in my Mr. Buzz (FCS)... They ride ok, but are sooo heavy. How much does weight matter in a fin set???

i was going to, but i like being able to use front fins as quad rears, esp. on wide tailed boards like this. futures doesn't make quad rears big enough, IMO. stupid multi-depth boxes...

ah, rad man. sorry about your knee, though. if you ever want to part w/ them, you know where to find me.

Man, thanks for all the responses. This is some great info!

I wondered if those inserts were really needed. I guess the idea is to prevent drag, but not sure thats necessary. thing is, the kit is only a few bucks more than the screws, and I dont think the board shipped with grub screws. They should include screws on these boxes but apparantly dont.

I never paid much attention to fins when all I rode was tris, but since I started riding quadas it seems like they are way more sensitive to fin selection.

yes and no. You need the right size fin for your weight, no matter what the fin config...although, without the stability of the tri/center fin, an under-finned quad might have a tendency to slide out more than an under-finned thruster.

i think there's a need to balance the size of the front & rears in relation to the width of the tail, too. a board w/ a really wide tail, like a simmons, needs more overall area & that area needs to be more evenly distributed between the front & the rear fins, where as a narrower tailed board (or one w/ less area) can get away w/ less fin area.
