While thinking today, I started thinking about possibly buying high-quality accessories for outer banks trips in the winter. In short, right now i have a 4/3 Hyperflex with 5/3 hyperflex booties and 3 mil Oneill Gloves. Like an idiot, I bought my booties too big again so now i'm stuck with them (I'm definitely buying size tens next time), and my gloves are already leaking in the seams.

Mainly, I want the best quality gloves and booties that have a great reputation. I heard that Xcel Infiniti Drylocks were really good, so Im thinking about getting 5 mil gloves and 5 mil booties for next year.

So which brands are make reliable, quality, long-lasting products? I'll might buy a new cold-water suit too and hopefully that'll last forever because I'll only wear it for Outer Banks trips. Sorry for the rambling.

I got Rip Curl F bomb 7il boots and Oneill 5 mil lobster mitts and i am super happy with them . My feet havent had any chills in any of the 4 hours session I have had lately.

Far as wetsuits you are already on the right path

Yeah I know you're a Hyperflex buff, But I want to know why they don't make a backzip? Because when I put my gloves on using the ol' plastic bag technique, it makes zippering up the chest-zip next to impossible with gloves on!

I know what you mean with the front zipp issues with the baggy technique. i tied a little peice of string on the loop at the end of the zipper. and it helped. I used the baggy trick when I used 5 finger gloves it helped alot

the xcel drylock booties are really nice.

but the xcel drylock gloves kinda suck.

the hyperflex 5 mil lobster gloves are nice.

i have been using 7 mil billabong booties lately, i know billabong usaully suck for neopreme, but these are the best booties iv ever worn.

I heard the Drylock 5 finger glove rip around the bottom of the palm area. I dont know i might buy a pair for drylock boots and loster mitts next year to give them a whirrle

I'm still wearing my Xcel 5mm Thermospan three finger gloves for, I think, the third season, which is pretty good. For boots I'm still wearing my 5mm O'Neil Heats from a couple years ago. But I keep my boots and gloves, and wetsuit, in good repair. When the hard rubber on the boots splits from the neoprene, I use Aquaseal to do the repair. BTW... if you can't find Aquaseal, you can use clear 100% silicone aquarium calk from the fish store... same stuff. Good trick. For gloves I use neoprene cement, and follow the manufacturer's instructions. It's the only way to get a solid repair. If your back foot is starting to leak, chances are it's on the ball of your foot, by your big toe. That's from cocking your knee and rolling your foot over onto the inside of your foot. That's normal, and usually the first thing to go. Don't run out and buy new boots because of that. REPAIR them. Better for your wallet, and the environment.

I have billabong 7 mil SG5s and they are the best boots I've ever owned. Really happy with them. My O'neill gloves on the other hand... not so much. Need Whiskeymilitia to sell some lobster claws cheap.

Ive had every type of glove, ive been noticing that anything but mittens get really cold! ive had 5 finger gloves, mittens and lobster claw... my feeling is that when your fingers are seperated you dont get the heat from the rest of the hand... just me but next winter im def gonna go for mittens as well as the 8mm west rounded booty !!!

i think whats more important is which gloves/boots you should stay away from...

i've found that the lobster-style gloves tend to develop leaks more rapidly than mittens, or even 5 fingered for that matter. Basically, mittens have the least stitching to worry about getting holes. (the simpler the better i think)

Also, i had a pair of ripcurl f-bomb 7mm boots last winter, and they wore out in about two months... they were wonderful at first, but the neoprene wore thin very quickly. After two months the 7mm was more like 2-3 at best, and i've had friends with the same boots report the same thing.

just bought some West 7mm boots for $35 on sale, toasty warm and no complaints after 3 sessions...

I"ve been using Excel Infinitley 5 mil 5 finger gloves for two seasons now. Really hold up. Nice grip. They're so warm they seem to keep the rest of my body warmer. Would like to try mittens. Booties: I've been using Oniel 5 mil for about three seasons. They work ok. good grip but dont hold out long in the cold. The West booties sound interesting, especially with more rubber. also the Hyperflex.
Curious if anyone has tried Patagonia? Good info

i have oneill superfreak 5/4 mill booties love them i got them on the winter of 08 and still wearing them strong. then i have 1.5 mill oneill gloves dumbest idea ever i got those a year ago but they are just as strong but i dont understand why everyone is having troubles with oneill? maybe its because i almost always get a injury in the winter. but now i have 2 mill rip curl e-bombs theyre are warm but i just got them but seem like they hold up.
