Been over 8 years since I've gotten down there. Never since Isabel. Mooshed my jeep. we'd start in front of the old lighthouse parking and around the point. the wifey would drive so only 1 paddle out. Remember paddling way out on big days, and looking south , seeing what looks like guys standing on top of the water fishing? there were many times seeing it while being "expanded", and fallin' out. Is the point still like that?
Grew up in Hatteras and since they moved the lighthouse they covered the shoal you are referring to. It was the walkout at the far south parking lot looking to frisco point. Surfed many a day where you would drop in on a chest high wave and your fins would scrape the bottom on the bottom turn.
the first time I went to the light house was in 75. Left at 2am with a ton of guys in my vw van. got to the top of the dune, and it was hundreds of yards to the water. Too far to walk so I passed out in the sand.
