For New Jersey, I'd say end of May, or beginning of June.

why don't you just buy a pair of booties & gloves??

anyway, i wore a 3/2 w/ 3mil boots & 1.5mil gloves today in ocnj. felt a bit of a chill from the wind, but i was otherwise fine.

you'll be able to get in a lot sooner if you just pick up some boots and gloves. I'd say in another 2 weeks to lose the gloves here in new jersey.

I usually go in with 3/2 sealed seam no gloves or boots at 55 h2o temp with warm air temps (70-80). takes about 15-20 min for hands and feet to adjust. Stoke factor helps. Got 5mil boots and 3mil gloves this year and in the water at 50 degree H2O temp. this year.

guys were out in maryland this weekend 3/2 no booties or gloves. you definately didnt need gloves, and the guys without boots seemed fine.

to the OP - next warm calm day with decent waves id say just paddle out and if your feet are cold, well then you know its not time yet, you might get lucky and have a fun 45 minutes.

i was planning for a 3/2 tomorrow, but the air temperature is too low. not even cracking out of the 50s. it's hard to believe it's warmer out right now then it will get the whole day tomorrow. that sucks. i usually trunk by the 1st of june. last year i was, but it took the last week of june to trunk in monmouth county back in 09 when we had that cool spring. i was also in a 3/2 last spring by mid april i think. hoping to shed the gloves real soon here, and the boots it's gotta be 60/62 for me to get rid of those. my feet get cramps, and my toes come out of place, and it's not very fun. 65 degree water temperature + at least 68/70 degrees, and sunny i'm in trunks no problem.

I talked to a guy fishing off a good surf spot yesterday. He caught a small striper and a good size ray. Water isn't 3/2 temp yet, but we're getting closer. Seemed to be more than usual garbage on the high tide line, but it's been raining alot too.

Why ar all you guys so da%n scientific all the time????
water temps, air temps, 7 mil, 5 mil 3/2 , 4/3 blah, blah, blah.
Try going in without gloves an if your cold put them on. same goes for everything else.

I am poor. I have had a same 4/3 wettie with a vest and an attachable hood that i have been using for 4 years now. IT KEPT ME WARM IN ALL WEATHER UNTILL I GET HOT IN IT ! (MAY/ early JUNE) > Then i go to my 10 year old spring suit
Yes it leaks! I have no idea how thick my boots are. my gloves are lobster claws and thats about as much as I know about them.
You all are a bunch of kook poser-pros.
GEAR BRAH ! I've been so sick for years now reading all this nonsense and I finally speak up

LOLing at their temp. guide...50 & below needs a full drysuit w/ boots & gloves??

the only mag i subscribe to is surfer's journal...it's the only one remotely close to my reading level. no "gear guides" w/ that one. nor would i need one, since i've got over 20 years of experience under my belt stand-up surfing along w/ an additional 5 or so years boogieboarding before that. i can figure out for myself what i need out of a wetsuit & what temp i should wear it in. not everyone can, tho. & yea, the repeated questions can get annoying, but if you don't like it, post up something else or just ignore it.
being core is something to be proud of. being poor is not.
i'm calling you a kook b/c you think you're so much better than everyone else. the guy asked a question. if you don't like it, stay out of it.
