I've been shortboarding for about 3 years now but everytime i go to stand up i hit my foot on the tail of my board. i get out of the water after a session and my whole foot is all cut up. any suggestions on how to stop this from happening?
thanks so much for any input! cheers

i have done it before, but i swung my right foot (my front foot) around the board awkwardly last summer around up and over my board nailing my right foot on the right fin (hurt like a b itch). My educated guess is that your not popping up, rather getting up i.e. not doing it correctly. make sure to get your chest up so you'll have the ability to pop your legs into the right position then to drag them into the right position - sounds crazy but when i give lessons i see kids all the time try to get their feet on the board before getting their chest off it. the only thing you can do is be mindful of it while surfing and make a conscious effort in getting up

A big part of surfing is about having strong and fast feet. When getting up think about moving your feet faster onto the board. Chances are you are thinking about things that you shouldnt be when taking off on a wave...think quick feet.
