The changing of the guard. Gabriel Medina beat Julian Wilson in a close final. Seems like the younger boys are starting to take control of the tour. -also, I don't know if anyone else was watching it live, but Jake Paterson and Spencer (spenny) are absolutely hilarious! I could just listen to jake the snake paterson just talk about anything all day.
i didn't get to watch any of it live, but i have to say that i'm really not a fan of the brazilian style of surfing in general, but specifically as it is practiced on the tour. those guys just seem like one trick ponies to me. in some ways, i guess it goes back to my "i'm sick of watching airs" thread from the summer...i was stoked to see taylor knox have a great even & advance to the semis. i don't think that this signals a changing of the guard, though. slater had a bad heat; it could've happened to anyone. when the kids are beating him when he's having a good heat, then we'll talk changing of the guard. i feel like every time slater doesn't have a mind-blowing event, people start crowing about how he's done & the kids are coming up...then he wins the next 3 events & wins the title again.
i watched bits of it when i wasn't studying for midterms and exams.... From what I saw the conditions SUCKED for the boys when I was watching it. The guys on the webcast were great though. Always something entertaining and intelligent to say. The babecam the webcasts have been doing in between sets is also a plus too haha
those euro comps dont work for my schedule. had to watch recaps. the 2nd and 3rd rounds screwed my fantasy surfer team though julian wilson's surfing blows my mind though, and medina looked like he was going huge. medina had a bye late in the comp though because of an injury right? its tough to argue with owen wright's consistency, and he's a goofy footer....
watch it Gabriel rips I am a taylor knox fan and it was great to see him get in the finals not big on the brazzo's but gabriel ripped! And the waves were sick what r u guys talking bout? some sweet ass on the beach too oh well... now I can go kook it in some shoulder high slop wishing I could surf like the worst of the pro's
