Do that, but in your conclusion, please leave out the derogatory comments. Just because it's the internet and you can make dramatic remarks from the safety of anonymity, doesn't mean you should. You never know what family member or friend will come across this thread and read your insensitive remark.

    RIP Andy.

Junkies are found in alley ways in atlantic city. Andy Irons was on the world tour of surfing. No way was he a junkie. period!

I got to thinking about the fly in a champagne movie, remeber when Kelly tells andy "I love you" right before their heats? This is Andy's last and final mind F*** to Kelly on his 10th world title quest.

    God bless you andy

andy did go through a period of partying pretty hard. He discusses that in "fly in the CHampagne". AC does have its junkies, but your silly if you don't think they exist in Hawaii, or Spring Lake...

Insensitive remark? they found methadone in his room. If I was one of his family members I would be extremely pissed about how selfish he was, especially for his wife and unborn child. That being said, it is tragic that he died and I am morning with the rest of the surfing community. It is a shame that this amazing life was ended in this way.

That isn't the story I have read anywhere. I was not the biggest AI fan, due to the way he carried himself some times. A little cocky for my book. But he was one of the best to ever do it. And I always respected that. He was always a guy that made me go, HOLY SH**!!!

But what I gather from this, is that he was been "deathly" ill for almost a week. I doubt he took any sleeping pills since he was bed ridden and so sick he was unable to travel. The only reason he couldnt fly is because HI is so strict and they didnt want him returning to the islands with some terrible disease.

Could it be possible that he had a drug problem, yes... But that does not add up to world class surfing. You cant have an OXY or a METH habit and DO ANYTHING> AI would literally NOT BE SURFING if he was an addict.

So, maybe he had a drug problem a long time ago, and had Methadone just incase.... But I doubt that. He never stuck me as a drug addict. To competetive...

You should assume the positive until someone proves otherwise. I bet you they find ZERO illegal substances in his blood.

I know exactly what you mean. I got here at the office today and I've done more reading about AI than actual work.

I kinda feel like I knew the guy too, from watching his video segments so much. I mean, we all recognize his tube-stance, his carves, his drops, etc.

    Very weird feeling.

Relating his death to playing mind games with Kelly and his world title race is ridiculous. What a B.S. angle to take on this tragedy. Sorry ,not a personal attack, but that is some dumb logic.

I really want to find out why he didn't go to a hospital in puerto rico....maybe he just wanted to try to see his family. What a weird, sad, and heartbreaking tragedy. bummed.

    quit the hating

people need to stop debating about whether or not his passing deserves any more or less respect based on the fact that drug overdose could have been involved, whether or not it was at all. nobody is perfect, he'll always be rememberd as a world champion, an incredible athlete and pioneer for the sport, and he's widowing a pregnant wife. so show him the respect he deserves and shut the hell up about the fact that he may or may not have been addicted to drugs or OD'd. if anything we should sympathize for his struggle with addiction if that is the case.

    RIP Andy

    think before you speak

seriously. If you stuck up pricks discount his character because of a bottle of pills WHEN HE HAD BEEN SICK FOR DAYS than I think that shows just how closed minded you really are. You try to maintain a decent sleep schedule flying around the world weekly. Does your back hurt? Imagine how it feels when AI takes a TOH dredger on the head trying to entertain you. Think before you speak and DEFINITELY dont go spreading sh!t like that before the autopsy comes out. Innocent until proven guilty, in life or death.

Again, much love and respect to the family.

Who cares about the drug situation. You people act like you're all angels, step into reality and wake up. ****ing toys. People are not perfect, and furthermore, at this point, who cares about how he died, how he lived is far more important. Whatever.

I think his surfing was an inspiration, in some form/level or another, to anyone who rides a wave. He was a master. And he lived an icredible life, even though it got cut off awful short. RIP.

im not an expert on drugs, and i could google the internet and stuff but i dont feel like getting in depth but is there anyone on here who can elaborate this for me and every one else on here:

    methadone vs methamphetamine

and are these both the same thing that are used for recreational use and are these also prescribed for medicinal use etc...

Methadone is a synthetic opiate that is mainly used to ween people off of an opiate addiction (Heroin, Oxy, Perc) and is prescribed by a doctor.

Methamphetamines are stimulants that are deffinatly not prescribed by a doctor.

Both are abused recreationaly and are very dangerous and addictive. Methadone is basically a legal alternative to heroin and other illegal opiates.

Andy was found with Methadone in his room supposedly.

Methadone is a synthetic opioid (drug acting similar to morphine) pain killer, whereas methamphetamine is a stimulant of the central nervous system.

being 16th in the world in a sport such as surfing i dont see how u can be a drug addict and be surfing at the level of competing he was surfing at, he took sick in portugal, had been sick for a few days before going to PR. heres an article with owen wright who was also sick, seems a lot of others were sick too.

For all of you that are arguing over how he died you should be ashamed of yourselves! We have just loss a surfing legend! & all you guys are worried about is how he died! We should be using this forum to discuss the greatness he has done for the surfing community and to pay are respect to him! The man died before he got to see his child's face! My heart goes out to andy's wife, family, friends, and hawaii! R.I.P. Andy!
