How do they affect the kind of flex you're after? Did you have to modify the design at all to accommodate?

Roy, I've notice you using a pretty fast lens to take pictures of your work.
May I suggest turning down the f-stop a few notches?
You would still have the close up effect you're after, and have a little bit more of your work in focus.
I love my 24mm F/1.4 lens, but for certain close ups, I'd shoot anywhere between 2.4-2.8 and 4-5.6. Distance from the subject makes up for the difference and you'll have a nice out of focus fade going away from your primary target.

    Give a shot

I watched the Diamond 8ft test video. the guy on the thruster behind you looked like he had to keep making speed dropping turns to keep from hitting you. diamond seems like its not a speed demon compared to the thruster?

Yeah I agree re depth of field etc, however the light is quite low so the camera is already at 1/30th of a second, probably best to wheel out the tripod for a longer exposure with the aperture shut down a bit.

the wide angle is frustrating as it distorts the shape so much so we've used a longer lens, this makes the short depth of field even shorter. Anyway I quite like the effect.

    thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Fitz the board is very fast, the guy coming from behind always has the speed advantage, I'm just hanging around keeping an eye on what he's doing to avoid collision, could have headed out further on to the shoulder I suppose, or even better not have taken off at all.

In the previous wave you can see that the board scoots through a section nice and quickly...

The channels won't change flex much since they are fairly close to the neutral axis (i.e. not on the upper and lower surfaces where most of the flex is controlled. I'm pretty casual about flex on these boards, what we get is what we get, it's more about the shape, the volume and the weight.

The main reason for the channels for me is hand grip... going thicker for big wave paddle in volume means that the rails are not as secure to hold on to, the channels fix that. I was talking to Jamie Sterling about his rail channels ( via Stretch I think) and he said that the hand grip is one of three reasons for them. They are easy to add on without changing the design, how glassing will go is another matter.
