I will sometimes get a rash in my pits from paddling, but this is more for sun

Nylon running shirt, short sleeve or sleeveless, and sunscreen.
Considering some sort of a hat while out there. The turf is thinning on top. Maybe something like what is worn in water polo? Look like a d-bag, but it won't get pulled off.

depends on the time of day and how long I plan to be out. If its a late afternoon session then I dont bother. If its late morning/mid day and I'll be out for less than 2 hours, sunscreen. Longer than that, rash guard. Use it as sunscrren alternative, not so much to prevent rashes.

Check TJ Maxx or marshalls...ive seen bucket hats for sale there made by quiksilver or whoever that have a chin strap to help keep them on. The other option (the one I've gone with) is to use the aerosol sunblock by nuetrogena or copper tone and spray it on the noggin and rub it in real good. The trick with any sunscreen is to apply it about 15-20 minutes BEFORE you get in teh water. Gives it time to soak into your skin and keeps it from washing off right away.

Don't wear a rashguard. I'm always in a wetsuite. My manly leg hairs don't like sitting on my borts without being covered.

As far as sun screen. I honestly never really wear it. It always washes off in the water and gets in my eyes and mouth. Then I can't see and have a weird taste. I do sometimes wear a surfari type hat. It's got a draw string to keep it on tight. Kinda funny actually. I look like an idiot, but dropping in on a steep one with one hand on your head to keep the hat on makes me feel like I'm going really fast.

I bought an Xcel longsleeve with a "Meshy" material that is supposedly a 50spf. It wears more like a T than a typical rashy. I like it

I personally hate rash guards but my nips and stomach get torn apart if I don't where something, so I tried a basketball Jersey And I love it you still that free motion of paddling and don't feel any constriction like you would with a rash, I'm personally not a NBA fan so I buy Jerseys made by the company's like fox, Volcom etc. This is always another option instead of a rash

Yea, I wear one. Short and long sleeve, depending on my mood for the day.
Paint logos all over them, depending on my mood for the day.
Stickers don't stay on too well.

FCS bucket hat. Really light weight and no metal parts to corrode. Has a string to tie it to a tether or something. Who cares what you look like if you're having fun?

if I'm not wearing a wetsuite, i always wear a rash guard. I am fair skinned and if i didn't i'd probably have skin cancer already. i tried going without before and i wore most of the skin off my nips, i also now wear a pair of spandex boxers underneath my boardshorts. The pain from chafing on my nugards made that one an easy choice for me.

Rash isn't an issue for me. But between 11am and 3pm, I'll fry if I'm out for more than an hour. So yea... a rash guard or more likely a t-shirt ('cause I'm a redneck like that). 50 or 70 SPF on the face and a t-shirt.

Earlier or later in the day, bareback.

I wear one every time I go out, if you are going to use one, and this is just me, but I like them to be a little tight, they just stay in place better, buy the better brand names, a little more advise, don't buy one with a seam running down under from the armpit to the end of a short sleeve, that's a rubbing point, not good.

Ah, so you're another one of those surf fashionistas like frosty. Better to look good than surf good, eh? I honestly could give two foks what people think of my appearance in the water. When the Florida sun is blazing I'll take a functional hat over heat stroke. I also wear last year's style of boartshorts. In fact they are probably two or three years old.

I've been a sun worshipper since I was a kid, and *never* had any issues.

The only time I wear a rashy is under the wetsuite, and in the burning Mexican sun. YMMV
