i have futures,VECTOR II F4 437 front fins,that came with QUAD 375 rear fins. i just received QUAD 340 rear fins.if i put the much smaller 340 fins back there instead of the 375 fins,what do you think? the 340 fins came with my 5-box board,to go with VECTOR II FJC1 460 fins,which are also the front fins if i go tri. so for a quad i could go 437 w/375 or 340 or 460 w/375 or 340
The smaller should loosen it up. I have a new Quad Groveler with the Future Controllers which have a large raked out front fin, and a small upright reaer fin and I love 'em
I know you're not going to like this answer, but since you already have the fins, try experimenting. I had 437s on a big quad fish and personally, I think they made the board too tight...and that's on a wide-tailed board. I can't imagine them on a HPSB. Maybe they turn on in overhead waves? I don't know. Did the 437/375 combo come with the board?
i like that answer.it's a hpsb,but,6'10"x21"x2 7/8" double-wing swallowtail,since i'm 6'5"/250 in full winter gear,so,yes,he gave me 437/375 with it,so just wondering about trying the 437 with the 340.this is not a fishy board at all,and i only ride it if the waves are pumping.but i find the quads,stiff,tight,tracky sometimes anyway,since i like twins and single fins.
I'm a huge fan of the twin fin. If you ever get the chance, try a Twinzer. You may find a new twist on an old favorite. As far as the 6'10" goes, I vote for trying it, at least once, with the fins that the shaper designed it with. He may have put a lot of release in the other aspects of the board (like the double wing), depending on the extra grip of the Vector IIs. If you already have surfed it with the 437/375s & it's too stiff, my next suggestion would be to do the 437/340s. Bring them to the beach with you and catch a couple of waves with the 375s, first. Then swap 'em out and see if you feel a difference. Just my 2 cents.
I honestly don't know too much about Quads, so take this with a grain of salt but here's my experience....I'm big as well, about 220. Daily driver is a 5 fin option round tail, full outline but not truly a fish or anything. Prior to it I was riding a twin, and digging it. When I got the new board, I used the fins it came with. They were some generic FCS fins (some M series) and there wasn't a big difference in size front to back. I swapped them out for a set of MR tfx twins up front, and some tiny double foiled GX in the rear, and I love it. A lot of fin, but still loose for some reason. So basically, big fins up front small in the rear feels good to me after being used to a twin. I've tried this setup without the rears and like it better with them in. Lots of drive. The fronts have a big base and a lot of area, but aren't swept back to far so they still pivot nice. I would definitely try the smaller fins in the back. I'm not too familiar with futures, but if you have some room to move the fins front to back at all, try pushing the rears up and the fronts back to tighten the fin cluster instead of puttingthem on the shapers dots. Might losen it up a bit. From what I have found, and read, switching fins up on a quad makes a big difference. I tried the combo above after reading it comes stock on a Proctor lil rascal and guys were saying how good it was.
If you check out Futures site you can tell you what fins will work and how they will affect the performance of the board. If you know a shop that has a Future fin tree you could try a cpl pairs out too .
