Paul...I saw that too yesterday and wondered why they were running that event in conditions that looked like a summer day at Assateague. Crazy.

I caught a few heats here and there,i mostly look forward to sunset and pipe.its always cool seeing the wqs guys who normally surf some crappy 3 ft beachbreak thrown out into life threatening conditions.sunset is my favorite spot on the northshore.it was great seeing sunny steal the heat towards the end.i saw that 1st wave and thought yea,one more and he got it.3 minutes later snagged another.

also while haliewa was goin down, kirk something drowned at the same spot chesser went down in the late 90s.pretty crazy got the whole thing on tape, reminds me of mark foo.guy obviously had the experience and balls to charge it,and he paddled out with damo and the gadauskus bros.pretty tragic but he died doin what he loved, just fell wrong.pretty cool to see damo out there chargin,he was out during the Fiji day and ocean beach while the mavs contest was going down so it looks like hes startin to get into bigwaves which is awesome.anyway I wouldn't blame kirks death on not having floaties, just an old case of shyt happens.he didn't have his own safety guy so when he went down they didn't really notice til after the 10th wave rolled over him.surfings dangerous

yea I feel the same way,its good to learn specific spots by watchin the heats.i wouldn't advise a beginner to even go to the north shore lol,but its always cool seeing how they negotiate clean up sets and where to sit, where not to sit,etc..when u watch the pipe contests like I have over the past few years, theres epic conditions but u see only 5 good waves go down for the entire day.its not like pipe spits out perfect tube one after another, its really challenging unless your john florence

They're definitely NOT going to finish today. Even if it were macking. They're going to use the schit out of that special extension.

You're right, we'll be lucky to see R32 finished today. Hopefully the swell starts filling in...

Looks like they'll try to get through R32 today and pick the best mid-to-late morning start tomorrow and finish up. Forecast looks promising for Sunset.

It was slightly bigger down here this morning but closing out. (Jackie O would have owned it today on her backside). Why do they hold a surf contest on the North Shore of Oahu in such crap? Reminds me of the Easter contest at Cocoa Beach.

It took 31 years before they had to request a permit extension for lack of surf?
Haha! It took 31 years for them to get a forecast like NJ gets every week.

Whoa Dane, welcome back to the party! Mick and Dane final with both of them in rhythm would be sick.

I think Quik lit a fire under Dane's ass, seems he's starting to get "interested" in competing again... aka: The gravy train's gonna end if he doesn't keep himself relevant.

Finals day about to crank up, too bad the swell isn't.

    Screw football, watch surfing!
