Am I the only one here who finds it ironic that a guy named Cook gets his leg eaten in Hawaii? speedy recovery Colin
Wow, that was the first decent thing I've ever seen posted from Barry. What, Barry, your wife give you some action this morrow?
So gotta wonder are these attacks more frequent now or just more reported? Is it a matter of just waay more surfers out there or just sharks being more populated? I hear all the time its there world and we are just visitors in it but gotta say if there was a way to keep them from beach shores I would be all for it..... Prayers being sent this guys way... so sad... hope his motivation is to get back out there in the water and ride again. Very sad.
More reported. It fluctuates year-to-year....just as it always has. Of course increased people in the water will bump up the averages of getting hit, but sharks gonna attack just as they did back in Barry's days.
Riley is partially correct but also fisheries/conservation efforts have increased shark populations more people are entering water regularly. it was hardly 2 feet on Friday, 20 years ago its more likely no one would have been out at a B/C grade spot on a down day more people+more sharks= more interactions>>attacks makes me think twice
Many Hawaiians believe it is related to the turtle population and vicinity to shore. Back when they were allowed to hunt turtles you never saw them close to shore. Now the turtles have no fear of humans so they come closer in. Sharks have always followed their food sources.
Hawaiians are deranged. Always have been, always will be. There are as many sea turtles in the open waters near Hawaii as there are near shore. That is NOT the reason sharks come in close and hit humans.
- update on Colin, he's a LCRI local and doing well! He's back in the water and making it happen, has some troubles getting in and out of the water at some of our rocky spots but hell we all do! His core buddies are doing a great job keeping him stoked!
He will learn to do better with entry and exits as well--he just needs more time, as it can be tricky as hell sometimes. Give him our best regards from all of us morons on this site!
