Do you rinse your suit out after every use? Does salt water really eat the glue on the seams? Or is smell the only reason we rinse out frequently? I rinse my suits thouroughly in the shower every time, but I'm starting to feel like this is overkill. My older suits which have been rarely rinsed are pretty much equal in integrity to my older suits which have been cleaned religiously. The odors are certainly different, but I dont see any cracking, splitting, or stiffness anymore than the others do. Its a pain in the ass. I want to be like the inlanders who towel change and throw the suit in the trunk for a couple days. I am tired of dripping water throughout my house to bring my suit outside to dry. Tired of getting sand everywhere. Such a kooky rant, but I need to know what the rest of you think.
dude....man my manufacturer says specifically to use COLD water, so I'm not sure about the warm water in the video. Also, I would rinse the suit the same way I washed it… full immersion to try to pull as much soap out of it as possible. I don't want to be leaving a sudsy trail. The rinsing of the suit might be more about aesthetics rather than durability… a stinky wet suit just seems more decrepit than one that is refreshingly fragrant.
If you want your gear to last, you gotta take care of it. Rinse your suits after every use. Re-glue/repair the areas that start to un-stitch or show signs of wear right away. If your boots get funky, use Sink the Stink or some other product (I use a tiny splash of bleach) to kill the bacteria that's EATING AWAY at your rubber. Thoroughly dry your gear in the shade. And for God's sake, fix your dings, man!
not to hijack, but is it bad if your wetsuit freezes? left mine in the truck last night after a snowy sesh at anchor point yesterday and temps got down to -15. it's thawed now but i wonder what effect the freezing had.anybody know? can't be good...
