I'm not a huge BMX fan, but I respect what they do, I skateboarded much of my youth, and watched this guy do truly amazing things on a bike. Died from apparent suicide at the age of 41. SMH, he will be missed. Possibly the GOAT in the BMX world. What a waste, had so much more life ahead of him. http://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...mirra-dead-of-apparent-self-inflicted-gunshot
I have met Dave a number of times and ridden (skateboard) with him. He lived just about 2 hours from me. I actually rode with him and Dennis McKoy at Woodward in PA 4 years ago. We rode that part where Dawn SUP's pic is from and the huge vert ramp in Cloud 9. Dude ripped for sure and was cool as hell to have a beer with too!
Sad to hear this. Guy had everything going for him. He had actually transformed himself into a great ironman/triathlon competitor in recent years and thought that was really cool. I'll never understand how a guy with that much going on for him could kill himself. Only thing I can think of is that he smashed his head a lot over the years and he found himself in situation similar to Junior Sea. Hopefully they do some autopsy research.
Suicide is a sad thing man. But once you have kids it's not an option. I saw some speculation from our western brethren that he had the same thing Junior Seau did?
I wouldn't be surprised if he had CTE. The number of head slams would def add up as a BMX pro. Especially for one on the cutting edge of the sport.
I smoked a doob with Mr. Mirra out back of cheap skates back in 1996...yeah out the door behind the vertical ramp if any of youz know what I be sayin' Rest in Paradise dawg
If I had to guess, troubles with the lady of the house combined with being an action sports star now in his 40s.
Thats no excuse. feel really bad for his kids. RIP Dave. I bought Haro bikes strictly for like 7 years of my life because of him. The Flair - That shi t blew minds back in the day! Now they do triple front flips. He 100% progressed the sport
Not making excuses but I'd be willing to bet those were exactly the things that brought him to do what he did.
Saw him way back in the 90s in either Carlisle or York, PA along with Matt Hoffman doing an exhibition.
Not going at you, just saying. But yeah, you're probably right. It's the power of the muff, man. Women will drive you to the edge, and then push you off!
