Why is caring about someone you enjoyed wrong? I don't get it. If someone is successful at what they do it's not ok to be sad they are dead?
You don't need Cosmo to know he died. I doubt you read it and you knew.

Gotta say, of all the recent celebrity deaths, idk, there's something about Robin Williams...cared about the world, cared about the environment, seemed like a quality human. And I do think he was vastly more talented than these other icons that have passed.

That being said, if there's no sense of emotion related to his passing, there is still a lesson, and that is that money truly cannot buy you happiness. All of the old adages are old for a reason. And I'm not saying he was chasing the material dream, but he made it, had all the money he needed at his disposal, and it still wasn't enough. Nourish your soul brothers and cultivate your spirit.

One final thought, we've all had bummer times, many of us may have at least thought to ourselves, 'hey man, f it, what if I just bail'...imo, given the modern human condition it's a wonder to me we don't have more addiction, more suicide, more depression. We've been severed from our source of sustenance. Whenever I got the blues, I take solace in my connection to the rest of the living world, and the fact that in the grand scheme of things(and I don't mean this negatively), we really are not that significant, we're the all singing, all dancing crap of the world;). Godspeed fellers.

Dude she loves how seriously I take safety:cool:, hoping for another meeting Saturday, keep your fingers crossed for me.

Here's what I don't get...b/c I think we've all had days where we question everything. If I ever decided to give up(which I could not b/c of my Mom, my niece, my animals...and I'm a better servant to the Earth living)...but if I did, it's not gonna be in a room by myself. Some Earth destroyers would be coming with me.

It actually is news when someone everyone knows dies. Doesn't make it any more tragic than any other death, but it is news.

I don't really watch the news so I wouldn't know, but if the death is getting more coverage than other more important news then it's a problem.

Good stuff Seldom, I wonder if he surfed if it would have made any difference. When i'm not 100% and need to cleanse my soul, I go surf and I always feel better, at least for a little while. It doesn't fix my problems or anything, but it makes them not feel so bad and it makes me realize how small my life is in the grand scheme of things. Live life to the fullest, leave no regrets, do everything you ever dreamed of so when it's all said and done, you can leave this place in peace and fulfilled. Make sure people that knew you celebrate your life, rather than mourn your death.

Well put DPS. When my life flashes before my eyes I hope it takes a while. In fact, I hope the Grim Reaper pulls up chair, opens a bottle of good scotch, pops in a DVD of my life and we sit back and knock off the bottle while watching the highlights.

Reaper: "Man I was sure I had you that time. If you hadn't been drunk and fallen down at just the right time..."

I'm not sure I would consider knowing I had an incurable disease with an eventual future of debilitating weakness and loss of speech and motor control an "easy life difficulty".

surfing does help, that cleanse the soul shyt is real.salt water has magical things to it.robin was a good guy,he showed up at the protests, went to Afghanistan multiple times to entertain the troops and countless other good deeds.I have seen most of his movies, and wouldn't call myself a fan of him,his idea of comedy isn't the same as mine lol but nonetheless he was good people and its fukd up the way he ended his life.they have been overdoing the media coverage but that's just how it is nowadays.but the little black kid killed in missouri is taking over, they need to lock that cop up on murder charge, the kid was executed and now everyones going crazy over there

I thought i was cold, but seeing some of you'se guys posts, Holy Bejeezus!

I feel bad for his family...he was a hell of a comedian and actor and did an S-load of good things for less fortunate people and kids with life threatening illnesses...the guy was genuinely a great person and to sh!t on him after he dies makes you a schlub.

If you haven't seen "What Dreams May Come", watch it...it's probably my favorite Robin William's movie...it's not a comedy. It deals with suicide and death.

I went through some serious depression this past winter, it's not cool...luckily, i got through my injury and got back in the water and I've been good ever since....and to scotty's point, yeah, he had just been diagnosed with the early stages of Parkinson's.

Oh, and Seldom...yeah, that last paragraph was prophetic, my brother...keep on slidin', holmes.

Nah, you're way off base on Williams, MIS.

You're focusing on his celebrity because you are subconsciously permitting the media to control your reaction to Williams existence. You are allowing the media to define an artist in terms of celebrity.

Would you hate Michelangelo because the media defines him as a 'celebrity'.....?
    Picasso?
    Andy Irons?
    Gandhi?

I get it, you seem to hate celebrity & the clueless rapture that too many people derive from it. I empathize with you from that angle. Same in re the media. They're pointless, talking heads, inane in existence & useless.

But don't confuse the artist with the swirl that the media creates around the artist & that the artist has no control over.

Williams was an artist for the ages, he spanned cultures & crossed every imaginable line of human involvement with laughter for the betterment of homo sapien. The media treated him as a 'celeb' and you are reacting to the death of what you've been told is a 'celeb' instead of taking a moment to appreciate the contributions of an artist. That's it.

Your 'hey tough guy grow a sac' views on depression, Parkinson's, suicide & any other 'weakness' as you put it are ignorant in the extreme, and that's being diplomatic on my part towards you.
