Hey SurfinBird, great vid about river surfing -- yes, it's more like surfing a rapid ... or stationary wave. You don't actually move forward, but having a ride that never ends ... until you fall ;-) there are different waves and spots in river surfing, some are more dangerous with heaps of rocks underneath, some are fine... depends on the spot... We're a bunch of Austrian river surfers who have recently launched the world's first magazine that focuses exclusively on river surfing -- there's heaps information on it on our page and you'll also find a spot map -- in case you wanna give it a try ;-) have a look here: riverbreak.com

Alright, just pop me an email if you wanna know more about it ... always happy to help :)

How about just saying, "Hey, check out my magazine"? It is surf related and some might actually be interested, so don't see the need for the spam approach.

Spam or not, it does look interesting. Thanks for sharing. I suspect that some surfers stuck far inland or during long flat spells would give it a whirl.

Hey cdog there's a standing wave on the CT River in Mass, not sure if you're aware or interested, but pretty sure it's on wannasurf.

Yea, I looked, I'd definitely give it a try if there was a spot near me. Looks fun.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I'll check into it. Lately things have been decent on Cape, but you never know ...

I'd definitely be fun to have a few spots like that around here.

It always amazes me that there are enough people in the world that are into such small niche activities to support a magazine dedicated to said activity.

Reminds me of something someone once told me. "Think of the most depraved sexual act that has ever entered your mind. Even if you would never ever think of mentioning it to another human being. Not even your dog. Well, there are at least a few magazines devoted to that very activity and they have an economically viable number of subscribers that can't wait for the mailman to deliver that magazine to their house every month."

Being a mailman would creep me out

You ever been to Holyoke? We talk about Bridgeport on here. Well this place makes Bridgeport look like Beverly Hills. I wouldn't want that water at the bottom of my toilet bowl.

Wish there was a standing wave in MA somewhere cleaner/better! No, BCN, there are no standing waves in Hingham, no matter how much money your granduncle doles out.

I have, not extensively, but definitely saw some of the seedier neighborhoods...drawing a blank at the moment but there was a cool area somewhere nearby there, cool old houses and such.

Shoots, brah! Like a hundred miles away!

Some day soon when we both are up for being a little more dog we can sample the parts of New England that aren't part of a nuclear exclusion zone.

I'd love to catch a certain spot in Maine w/ the right conditions...at least going by pics I've seen.
