That is not a cool situation at all. I was nervous as hell watching that...excited dog with a baby with the door closed. Not cool.

Two weeks ago we had to put down our 9 year-old dog because he bit our 1 year-old son on the face. Unprovoked. Aside from a small scar the baby is okay, but it was the worst experience I've ever had to go through.

whoa - nobody should have to go through that; sounds like you did the right/brave thing. if theres' an
upside its that baby scars likely to COMPLETELY DISSAPPEAR...

 

Yeah, it was the worst. Sorry to be the debbie downer. The wife is all over the scars like any first-time mother would be. She's been applying vitamin E quite liberally about 1000 times per day.

The worst part is that the pup was showing signs that he wasn't totally cool with the new addition. But what do you do? Keep them both separated 100% of the time? Impossible.

 

naw dude german sheppard are by far more superior in intelligence and reliability. ive had many mutts and they dont come close. had lab/pit mix ect. they were good dogs but didnt have pace.

I got a light dropped on my head when i was 2. Im 28, I still have the scars, they dont go away.

 

i like all dogs but one breed I don't like are rotweilers.iv seen a lot of different dogs,big dogs,small dogs,soft dogs,vicious dogs,and the rotweiler succeeds them all.i was raped by a rotweiler as a kid.it was very violent.kinda like that video,the dog kept trying to bite my feet off.not in a playful manner.

people say pittbulls are vicious but I found a few good strays before that followed me home.didnt have to use a leash or nothing,and its only after knowing the dog for a few minutes.i don't really like pitbulls tho,they are cool but not my kind of dog.

Just read the entire thread, haven't been around for a couple days...

First off let me say sorry you had to go through that Mad Atom.

Secondly, while I never generalize a breed, in my personal experience the only problem I've ever had was with a Rotty. Didn't own one, but got charged by one while walking the Phin. And I think you guys know me well enough to know how much I love dogs and animals in general, but this guy meant business, and I had to knock him out(thank Gawd for Muay Thai). Crisis averted.

On a final note, Huskies/sled dogs/Wolf hybrids for life.

 

Been around dogs my entire life, have owned several of many different breeds, and one thing I have seen is that it is usually all about the owner. If a dog bites another pack member, then it's usually because that dog believes it's Alpha, and not the owner. If a dog knows it's place in the family then it normally, not always, but normally will stay loyal and not harm anybody who is a every day pack member, i.e your immediate family. Now there are always exceptions to the rule, just as there are a great many humans that just go nuts for absolutely no reason, there are cases of this also in the wild and domesticated animals. It's happens very infrequent in a proper environment, and it's a shame there are so many morons that are allowed to own animals, not saying these people in the video are morons, but i'm saying there are way too many people that own a dog or cat or w/e and have no business with any sort of pet at all, because they can barely take care of them selves.

I feel terrible for you guys who had a kid bit "unprovoked" and it's even worse to have to put your own pet down because of that, so don't take this the wrong way, it's in no way directed at you, i'm just talking about those people who don't know what they are doing, these same people get a drivers license and have no business behind the wheel, you know what i'm saying? Anyways, people talking about certain dog breeds being bad have no clue IMO, you can't generalize like that, by that logic then you must put humans in the same category, because more humans do hard unto animals then animals EVER do unto humans. That is all.

 

Did I miss something. I was on edge watching this waiting for something to happen, but the dog seemed fine. It wasn't biting/attacking the kid. If it was the kid would be crying not laughing.
And there was someone in the room taking the video... Bet it's a great dog.

 

Yeah, the dog didn't do anything wrong in the video, totally playing with the kid, it's the people talking about certain breeds being bad that got me going. This dog is probably a great dog.

 

For the record fellers I wasn't insinuating that rottweilers are bad, just sharing my experience. I had no issue with that video.

 

I saw nothing in the vid to be concerned about. The little tyke was laughing and having fun, while the dog was just playing with him. Still, it's good to keep an eye on dogs and toddlers when they're together like that.

 

That's probably my bad - I sorta hijacked the thread by bringing up what happened to my fam recently. Seeing the video made me real nervous having my experience fresh in my mind. The title didn't help either...something along the lines of "rottweiler attacks baby".

Seldom - thanks for the kind words. DPSUP - I agree fully. 99 out of 100 times something happens you can trace it to the owner. In our case, it probably was our fault if you look at the big picture. He was a very dominant male who had a crazy amount of attention for his first 8 years. Baby comes along and all his attention goes bye-bye. His dominant nature made it hard for him to accept his new status.

Our dog was an AmStaff (aka pitbull). He was a great dog, but I'd never get a male pit again. Way too dominant. Another story about rotties...my mother used to rollerblade about 10 miles a day around our house. Something about roller blades makes dogs lose it. Anyway, she got nailed by 3 rotties and got bit pretty bad on her leg. I'm not a rottie fan either, but have many friends who LOVE them.
