No worry.. From the title and a few comments I thought the dog did something wrong, but I didn't se it. I was actually watching through my fingers (like a wuss) thinking it was going to maul the kid... So I really thought I may have missed something. Sorry about your dog. That had to be awful. Putting my dog down was the worst day of my life and he was old and ready to go. So I know it must have been terrible.... As mush as it sucks just remember that if he did really hurt your kid you'd never forgive yourself. Terrible situation, but necessary.
Sorry for your loss man, that really sucks. He was a great looking dog, Pits are one of my favorite breeds. My sister just lost hers, she was a gorgeous dog but suddenly got ill and died within hours of the symptoms starting, was really odd, but she was the most loving non aggressive Pit I had ever been around, my sister had a daughter a few years back and she basically protected that baby, it was really cool to watch. I've made the mistake of not paying enough attention to my dog and it definitely affects the way they behave. It's easy to forget we're the center of their universe, they wait for us all day to come home from work and when we get there we're too busy / tired for em sometimes, I get it. Hope you decide to get another one day, but if you don't, I wouldn't blame you. It's hard to put myself in your shoes cause I've never had to do that, so i'm sorry if I came off a little harsh in my original post.
