Man look at the foil on that rocket ship. The IG story says the "whale tubercules" or Hercules or testicles make the whale "swim faster" and "turn tighter". Faster and tighter than what, exactly? Because when I think of speed and tight turns, I immediately think of whales. Shear fokkin genious
Just goes to show you how just about anything can be used to ride a wave. Tubercules actually make sense in terms of hydrodynamics... just doesn't make practical sense on surfboards. Another dog came to mind reading this thread... My first "shortboard," circa late 60's, straight out of the shortboard revolution. It was a single fin rounded pintail... about 6'10 or so... by Challenger Eastern. This board was from a time when they hadn't figured out what a shortboard needs to work right... they just knew it had to be short to SELL at the time. It was basically a mini-longboard with no rocker, and those hard down "Brewer" rails with no tuck.
"Mr. Blutarski...zero point zero." - Dean Wormer Those were before my time, but I remember seeing a few of those around collecting cobwebs in the back of all the surf shops I haunted as a kid. Can't believe anyone could ride those things. I guess they'll be saying the same thing about our boards in 20 years lol. So I came to the realization this morning that Roy's boards are like a Sperm whale competing against a horde of Thresher sharks. Noice.
I had a Challenger, cant remember the eastern part in the name ,about 7ft it was purple heavy nose rocker real fat and humpy in the tail very deep single fin and the very sharp edged rails ,by Bobby Challenger i think but it did have clark foam so I tore the glass off and redid it into another ugly board
