Any more pictures or description of this board that you are discussing?

    Roy,

Any luck getting any video of you making a tube? IIRC when I asked you a year or two ago for that you said it was "a reasonable request".

I said it before, and I'll say it again: Nothing more than a modern version of Tom Blake's "planks" of the late 1920's through the early 1950's, albeit lighter and more exotically constructed. The craftsmanship is worthy of an expensive wall hanging.

Performance? Surfers stopped going straight-off during the Simmons era. DERP

A Million Dollar Paulownian Phallic Symbol...just add gold leaf.

Because whenever the gnome has taken a plank out in large surf, they turn into kindling for the apres surf beach bonfire. Not exactly the self-proclaimed genius's finest moment in his shaping career.

Roy, how come your tubercles face forward on the fins but backwards on the tunnel fin?

theres an old saying in the skateboarding world that applies here very well: "if it ain't footy its fiction"

Ok well you are probably familiar with how the leading edge bumps work? The trailing edge undulations do a slightly different job, they improve flow mixing as the water from inside and outside the tunnel meets at the trailing edge. Bumps on the leading edge of the tunnel not so good as the vortices created will conflict with the main vortex created inside the tunnel ( instead of being counter rotating they rotate in the same direction).

After doing the trailing edge scallops a friend sent a picture of the cowling on the Rolls Royce engines used on the Boeing Dreamliner. I was delighted to see that their theory is exactly the same as ours.

Let's hope that you are not expecting a different result, as that would be a definition of insanity.

Meh, I haven't surfed big stuff for the past 14 years and had no camera gear until 2001, only stills camera then too.

Believe what you want, it makes no difference to me since I was there. When it gets to 2 wave hold down territory, it's big. I know what I've ridden. Quit while I was still alive, had a couple of close calls.

Was out of the water for 11 months last year, just got back in had 5 sessions, feeling good, fit as a fiddle. Tubes not #1 priority but we'll see what Huey dictates.

We are not talking about YOU riding big waves. He wants to see your wooden planks riding and performing in BIG waves.

Yep coming up, just about to cut out #2 the N66-21 another 9'5" today as well. That will make 5 to glass including the three 8 footers already shaped.

I kept the volume as high as possible via flat deck and faceted upper rail, used constant rail section as i do on the woodies, can't wait to get out on a 9'5" by 24" with mega paddle power and the new fins.

    :)

I see, well it hasn't happened yet, have to glass 'em first, and then check if the concept is good in regular waves before making some longer ones for the rider in Western Australia.

They'll be foam too, not wood. The wood is durable and strong but foam and 3d glass is stronger and we can pump them out i.e. one a month, rather than one every 3 to 6 months as it is for wood.

I've seen the tubercles on wind turbines after riding the fins I think I have a good feeling and understanding of how it's supposed to work. I felt the drive of a larger fin but the responsiveness of a thinner fin. I think that's the tubercles working.

Can you post a pic of the Rolls engine?

Why not incorporate them on both sides of the fin?

Also, I asked this question of Charles too and we couldn't come to an understanding on it so I'll ask you. The tunnel fins are foiled on the outside and bottom like the engine above but it is being aided by a lot of horsepower. If you had a motor forcing water through the tunnel I think I would understand the benefits better. The tunnel has about 180 degrees or half a circle of foil with at least 60 degrees of foil that's lift is actually pulling the tail into deeper in the water. Is that the intent? Wouldn't you you create a bernoulli effect if you foiled the inside rather than the outside? Do you think that may be more beneficial because you don't have the benefit of an engine forcing water through the fins?

If these questions aren't expressed well enough I can try to clear them up.
