I am leaning more towards the Walden.

I am 68, and I wouldn't buy one of those godzilla floating Waldens if it was the last board on Earth or the Universe.
It reminds me of the literature piece "On Walden Pond" by Thoreau. How freaking gay.....
The few guys I know that have them, put them on the car top, drive around like that, never surf them, and they evolve into fat, plump, "highway surfers". Disgraceful!!

hahaha...you MUST have been to Delmarva. This is 100% spot on description of the 2 or 3 main surf breaks around here mainly in the summer, when the "highway surfers" are thick.

I love walden shapes, but if it's a chinese popout I would not say it's bulletproof. I have done ding repairs on a couple and they are actually really fragile. My buddy isn't that big of a guy and his deck was smashed to hell.

The boards that AREN'T made in a china sweatshop are superior, this is just my experience with the popout.

Agreed on the popouts. Don't own a walden but always thought they had a pretty thick glassing. that being said, you can probably get something custom from a local shaper for similar price to a new one (and feel good about it). I know OP was looking at used boards so that's probably not an option

Local shapes are always the #1 option.

But yeah, he doesn't want that "old/fat man" board anyway :D

*disclaimer: I like to ride big, wide surfboards when the conditions say so

I would always recommend getting a custom shaped board by a local professional #1 but if you find a steal of a deal on a Walden it wouldn’t be a bad pick up.

Like I said before, they are wave catching machines based on what I have seen. Never personally owned or ridden one. Just an observation. I do see lots of kook on them, but same goes for 5’10” Lost , Rusty, CI, etc. short boards. It’s not the arrow, it’s the Indian.

Z Don’t let Barry talk you out of a board because he doesn’t like it, “listen to your heart”.

I wasn't trying to talk him out of it.
Hey if he wants a Walden fine....I don't mind if he wants to look gay and be the laughing stock of every beach around......<grin>

Yeah I got admit it's kind of funny that we're trying to talk some guy out of a short board and into a longboard LOL

    It's not a longboard--it's an aircraft carrier.......

Lol Maybe he wants to look gay!? Ever think of that? It’s a real possibility in 2018, you just never know anymore.

Hahaha I kid I kid. Zeroevol isn’t trying to look gay, he’s a man among men. Good peoples actually.

I wouldn’t steer him wrong. And neither would you I’m sure. I’m not pushing him into the Walden, just saying it could be a good deal if the price is right.

Think of the time of year ahead of us, lots of small mushy waves ahead. Summer will be here before we know it.

LMFAO, you fellers are cracking me up. I don’t need either board, but the price is def right on the Rusty, especially with everything it comes with. The dude may have sold it yesterday, I’m waiting to hear. The Walden is a buddy of mine who bought it, I think used but in great condition and then never used it. I really have no desire to have a longboard, but I have to admit, I do get slightly jealous when the conditions are right for one and I am sitting on the beach while the longboard guys are surfing. Although, usually at that point I’m fishing. I mean, I could buy it and strap it to my roof and just drive around town. Ha ha

Go buy the longbaord, if you don't have one. They are fun. I own 2 of the creatures, a G&S, and an August.
