I'm excited for you man. Greg G builds a really high quality board too. Top notch craftsmanship on his boards I have repaired.
Im sort of in the same boat as you. Iv never owned a fish and would like one. I however plan doing a more modern style with retro influences like LB mentioned. Deff post a ride report. Considering the coment you made about mini sims.... it sounds like the fish tickles your fancy more. So totally do that. BUT although your LB covers the type of waves you'd ride a mini sims in its not an excuse to not get one. They are two totally different feels and styles. Doesn't matter that they overlap wave wise. For small and/or weak waves i have 3 or 4 boards to ride, all diffrent styles. For big stuff i got 3... again all diffrent styles. For the inbetween days... about 4 or 5. I know you know this already. Im just throwing it out there.
Definitely man. I think I just need to get this one out of my system first before going with a Mini Simmons or another "Groveler". I will have one in the future but, I have to do this first lol
Nice looking stick...looks very similar to the 6'1" I am riding a lot these days! Is the tail pad put on yet in pic? I was just wondering on how it was positioned...
Hear you 100%. We're basically in the same boat but reversed. I needed a mini and had to get it out of my system. As soon as the wedding is over and I'm all settled in to the new house and have some spending money again for me, i need to fill that fish void. Been wanting one for almost 10 years, just always thought other boards would be more practical for my needs when it came to decision time.
This has nothing to do with a mini simmons... its a generic fun shape factory made in Asia. You might actually catch the clap riding it.
Got my borts mixed up in my oatmeal - but you’ll laugh... I just rode one of those the other night - and tomorrow is my anniversary motel trip. What am I gonna tell my wife??? Hahahahaha
Look at the beefy foil on that thing. In fact... can you even use the term "foil?" Looks like they cut the outline and called it done.
I think the guy I saw was on a compact disk or mega compact disk. Based on their website, this is the shortest fattest board I could find. https://www.waldensurfboards.com/collections/compact-disk
So stoked! I went with a poly 5'8" x 21" retro fish like the one pictured with modern day tweaks similar to what LBCrew was suggesting earlier in the thread for improved performance. Greg has a similar design that he has been doing for some of the pros, including his sons. It will have the marine plywood Gephart keels glassed on and also a fiberglass leash loop. I went with emerald / jolly rancher green w/gloss coat. It'll look slightly different than this picture, but this is the picture that inspired me.
Since I have a twin fin on the way I figured this would be a good time to get more familiar with my quad setup on each of my SB’s. I just changed the fins out so I don’t have to think about it next day there are waves.
