hey guys, I'm heading down to our place in ocmd this weekend and I was wondering if the usual spots are still holding or if the summer swells or lack thereof had messed them up. Last time I was there was in july mainly ride lbi, nj these days. Last time I was in md I noticed the sand shelf right at the edge of the waterline, I usually stick to 35th-38th but I just wanted to make sure I didn't blow it. Hopefully saturday will hold.
Yeah I went out at about 60th or so (right over the 90 bridge maybe a block or two down) and it was not terrible for maryland but breaking a little close to shore for my liking. Will try it further south... I'll be sure to bring a camera if its even worth it.Any suggestions on fins for a 6'4" fish? I'm riding the typical FCS set up right now but I think I want to something stiffer.
In essence. . . there are NO sandbars left in Ocean City. Closeouts are the rule of the day no matter the tide, no matter the wind- especially with this continuing funky north swell. Water temps are starting to drop from a week ago too. Sleeves recommended. North OC (see ocsurcam.com) north camera, has been closeout shorebreak for at least the past year. Even the inlet is screwed up, and it's not just because of SunFest. Reasonable size is still here, but dropping, and the shape is sadly lacking. Assateague won't break except at dead low, and it's VERY Assateague, if you know what I mean.
I gotta agree with what mdsurfer said... uptown oc has been trash for the past year, which SUCKS! Gotta love beach replenishment. At least that's what I'm assuming is the cause being that uptown held good bars the past few years. Whatever the case may be, checking the old uptown spots is a complete waste of time.
We caught 118th off the hook in May of this year. Nice sand bars w/head high rights feathering outside for the easy drop, then a fast racy wall with cover ups. I agree it's sucked ever since June but I think its seasonal thing not beach nourishment...they've been pumping OCMD since 1988 and the uptown sandbars have been pretty perfect many times over the past few years.
