Fark I can't believe you asked for a link. Now I feel like I'm making up fake news.

I think I might have read it on a Wannasurf post but I don't remember. Maybe late 90's to early 2000's.

EDIT: Barry says Collins was taking a lot of heat for it on his message board, I may have seen it there?

True about moss Jetty.....but if you surf in the dunes area no one will bother you....also true that the North of town spots mentioned are much less crowded and pretty fun. There's a spot in the area that kinda has the name of a holiday that needs a south swell and can get really really good but it is really sharky...the scariest place I have ever surfed in that regard. Most of theocals are cool there although one time I was at the hook and was sitting between "ratboy" and some teenager while ratface berated by telling and swearing him for 10 minutes for snowballing his wave ...give me a focking break what a tool...there is a great Mexican grocery store that sells amazing tamales for a buck and also a pupusa restaurant that is excellent

Here's another link where Collins defends himself and denied the accusations:

I dunno. It's totally possible that the villagers might have gotten overzealous without his knowledge.

But man, if you're a renowned and seasoned Mexico traveller, you know and prepare for all contingencies. You *know* that it might get crowded with other people. You *know* that a Mexican will pop you in the mouth and not blink an eye. You prepare for these possibilities and police yourselves as well as you police the area in question. This was supposed to be a "goodwill tour", for crissakes.

The entire event was his responsibility. Whether he had knowledge of the episodes (plausible) is irrelevant. He is directly complicit with the ill will towards the unwelcome outsiders.

Partied in San Francisco for a couple of days. Driving to SC today. Swell is filling in and looks promising for the week. Thanks for the input, I’ll report back.
