I would say support local if it was Nov 7th, but since it's Dec 7th, I think you may have difficulty getting it done for xmas.

That said, a 5'10 will be quite a bit different in the three boards you mentioned since their shapes vary quite a bit. How heavy is your husband?

Of the three you listed, I'd probably go with the Dwart for knee to chest range. Inever liked the Flyer for waves under like waist/belly high.

I am heavy and like foam, but for comparison, if I was going to ride a flyer now, I would get a 6'5" or 6'6". If I was going to get a Dwart, maybe 6'0" or 6'2". It's got more volume packed into the shape so it doesn't need to be as long.

If you buy off the shelf, Lost Rocket is a good all arounder with small wave focus as well, and everyone seems to carry them so you could probably go pick one up in that size no hassle.

If you want a cool custom, that's unique, contact Mike Daniels of COIL out of FL and ask for a round tail flashback fish. He can ship to your door or you can order through No Flat Earth in Brick. Get 5 fin fusion option for variety. Won't get it by Xmas though. :)

Great post...agree with everything you said. the Flyer and Dwart are both great shapes but very different.

Ordering a custom 2 1/2 weeks before Christmas and expected delivery before Christmas is not ideal. In fact ordering a local custom as a gift, where the rider doesnt even meet the shaper seems less than ideal as well...

here is what you should do, since you dont have time to get a local to shape a board and deliver by christmas buy a giftcard with how ever much money you would spend and tell him to go to the shop and buy the board he wants.

Aviso lost swallow tail fish has similiar dimensions. On second thought seriously i would just hold the whole surprise thing *taking in consideration you have the money* and just go with him to the shops as a surprise.

Its a pretty personal relationship that I have with each and every one of my surfboards. I guess if i got a board for free I wouldn't be too picky..

My buddys gf borrowed a board from beach house in bayhead just to put something real under the christmas tree. On the board was an envelop that had said he could actually order custom dimensions from COS. He ordered a sick board. He was stoked.
