the yin and yang Theyre gonna charge money to visit the beaches down south. Thats how the money for the bridge will be made back. The new traffic diversons will take people around town either N or S and eliminate the urgency to replanish the central beaches and control sprawl. To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Bumping this because the issue is still ongoing. There is a chance to restore access to a more reasonable level. A lawsuit has been filed to return to a balance approach to resource protection at Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreation Area. Also, NC Representatives and Senators have introduced legislation to return to a strategy balancing protection and access at CHNSRA Read this for a full rundown of how we got here and why: http://islandfreepress.org/PivotBlog/?e=184 Go here to include your support in a petition with 20,000 + others that feel the same way: http://www.change.org/petitions/to-...nps-orv-rule-and-restore-free-and-open-access Call/write/email your local House Representative to support HR4094 Call/write/email your local Senator to support S.2372 If we let our voices be heard we will not lose access to the best break -- When it goes off, if you know where i mean -- on the east coast. If you wanna get to good surf bad enough and there are obstables in the way put your cell phones down, make the trek and enjoy the scenery.
Ever hear of EVOLUTION.... faith over fact is just rediculous..... now everyone sit back and enjoy the chaos
We are our own worst enemy. What was once a very idyllic place to live work and visit is now an over crowded tourist zone. The vast majority of residents that either live there or own property have arrived within the last thirty years. My family has owned, or should say borrowed, property there for a very long time. Dare county and North Carolina did a wonderful job of selling the place. Summertime in town is madness. The point being is that we miss the point. Over crowding and human encroachment have created an almost untenable situation where management has become nearly impossible situation. Simply put everybody wanted a piece of the pie now there is almost no pie. The reason I say borrowed is that the place is so eroded that another couple good storms could wash a good portion away. I say let it go, find another destination, and remember it for what it was.
I'm sorry you people hate me so much. But your probably right in that you deserve to drive over my nest and leave your cigarette buts, used tampons, beer cans, and greedy kookiness. In reality, I'm the real local and y'all are the tourons. Boo hoo, you can't surf well you just drove over my chicks head and her eyes popped out of her beak. Weakling cry babies get over it. Anyway....I win ....ha ha. Get a surf lesson kooks.....except for tat barley kid...rippah. Yo ec pass the....
Hey Plover, where's your buddy Oyster Catcher? They just closed a beach down my way because someone THOUGHT they saw an Oyster Catcher. Still not verified and it could have been something else, but alas.... the beach remains closed. Plover, you are not indigenous to the OBX, so (in true Leethestud fashion) eat a B=========D.
First you hate because of the foreign country your from, then the color of skin, then if someone lives 15 minutes further than the beach than you, now because someone builds their nest at the foot of a dune. I see a pattern here....racist, localist, specist. All manifests from greed. Can't we all just get along. Were all the same color on the inside...I have a dream....
The natural predators will eventually get to these birds if they keep putting their nests in a vulnerable spot... no matter what the so called "naturalists" do.
you are right ecock, they are not indigenous to the outer banks, but then again neither is man, but I can bet they were here before we were, and reddz, if they get eaten by predators, then that was meant to be. But in order for nature to work we have to give it a chance. No nature, no man. That's a very basic tenet. Do the science. Open ya'lls eyes and take a minute away from trying to obtain more crap. Most of you complain that the world has gone to hell, but what have you done to make it better and I don't mean for yourself. In this society of viruses, be the cure not causal of our demise. One last thing, when Cristo Columbo sailed the ocean blue in 1492 the Outer Banks did not exist. We have managed to destroy in 50 years what took nature several hundred to build, but enjoy that Iphone, because the swell app will tell where another break is, then you and 500 of your best friends can surf there.
Been surfing hatteras for 20 years. Never had a real problem with enviro beach closures. On the other hand, with the wall-to-wall fishermen and beach vehicle traffic I feel like I'm in the Wal-mart parking lot instead of the most beautiful beach on the East Coast. Save Hatteras from over development.
"Ecock" Yeah man, makes you incredibly credible. Just to make sure you have as small an impact as possible--DON'T GO TO THE OBX ANYMORE!!! The locals (and birds) thank you!
