So my whole family are going to donovans reef sunday and they want me to go with them because they want to see me surf but my concern is the conditions there could any one tell me how the break is holding up with this swell I would really appericate it thanks
I lived in sea bright for 3 years from 2006-2009. I wasn't fully into surfing those years due to life getting in the way. However, here's my impression... I figure it's an entire town best left for the skim kids and it's the only place I know that actually HAS a skimboard scene. I always expected the breaks to be completely screwed up by the frequent dredging of the beaches in the area but that's all speculation. Can anybody else comment? Does anybody actually surf a break in Sea Bright? The parking is so bad for non-locals it won't likely ever be a popular spot.
I checked up that way on thursday and the swell wasn't really getting in there. With the expected drop in swell period, compared to earlier in the week, there may be a rideable wave coming through. You are better off going south to Long Branch where the waves might be a bit bigger and better. The dredging actually helps the waves up there to a certain extent, otherwise, the waves would be breaking into the sea wall.
Dredging absolutely does NOT help the waves here........ And honestly not much to surf at Dono's. Bring the stick and maybe you can snag a few set waves. Better off just crushing drinks Don't be fooled LB is no better.
Yeah I work in Sea Bright, you're not going to find a good surfable wave unless you travel north to Sandy Hook, or down south to deal.
I would take the waves breaking into the sea wall any day over what is there now. Way back when at Sandy Hook there were several breaks that went right into the sea wall and to this day they were some of the best waves I have ever surfed.
il confirm that seabright has no waves.iv lived there for a few years and they never have any sandbars working.deal is a lot better.seabright simply cant hold up.your best bet would be to just drive down ocean ave and every 15minutes pull over and youll find something working,but seabright definitly has no waves
i really shouldnt say this but if u want to surf sandyhook,go to the fishing beach in the back.it holds the best size n its not super crowded like the 1 main beach everyone surfs.sandy hook is a big place so just dont piss off the angry fisherman
I live in Md now but Sandy Hook was my home break in the late seventies through the eighties. We surfed North Beach a lot when it would get really big but still it was nothing like the front half where the toll booths are now up to the cove. I will never get over what the government did to that place, I hate to even go back and see whats there now.
I grew up surfing what is still one of the best breaks I have surfed. A spot called Logs in northern Sea Bright just north of the beach clubs. My last surf there was probably in the late eighties early nineties. Was a great jetty break. Also, one of my best days ever was surfing Gloria in 1985 at the jetty right off Donovans.
I feel like these days are over...... Or I'm just getting older, and everything is just going stale. DAMN
