Yep, bulls. Tons of them around, and the bastards don't even have the decency to have a large fin so you can spot them easy like a hammer. Hard to count but I think there were four of them. The vid was taken at Inlet Watch Yacht Club. The area I highlighted is the spot where there's some ok snorkeling, water is a bit brackish but it's calm 'round the point and with the right conditions it clears up. Nothing spectacular but enough to go flop around and pass the time when it's flat. The green area is Freeman Park, where me and SCREWBY and the rest of my N End homies hang out. I think it's funny when the tourons take their kiddies over there to swim b\c they're scared to have them in the "ocean" b\c of the sharks. The first vid, the snap those jaws make, can you imagine that clamping down on your calf or an arm? Ouch. Hey - weren't you the guy that was out and had the GW destroy a seal right by you and your crew?
Sure! me and the wife go crabbing and clamming out there some. I WILL NOT SHOW HER THESE VIDEOS!!! One of my most kookish moments happened when I paddled towards what I thought was a porpoise and it was a bull shark feeding. I turned and paddled right off the front of my boart... Thought I was a dead kook, but the shark seemed to be happy eating what ever the fu(k he was chewing on.
This is an old story about sea life I wrote on the forum years ago. Hope you like it. The creepiest situation I have ever experienced happened right near home, Assateague Island to be exact. I arrived at the beach first thing in the morning to perfect conditions. A friend was right behind and we kept commenting that this was too good to be true, I mean perfect conditions, solid surf and no one out. Turns out we were right to be concerned. We suited up, paddled out and caught a few good waves, but the feeling was always there. It was like the shoe was gonna drop and it was hard to relax. Then out of the corner of our eye we saw it, it was huge like 10 feet long with a giant fin. It was circling just outside of us right as a set approached. We turned hoping to catch a wave and get away but it seemed to catch the same wave and was coming right at us. We felt a mixture of fear and disgust all at once. Not only were we afraid for our life but it ruined a perfect set. Just as it got close it lost momentum and then just sat there. Finally, it struggled to it's feet, moaned something about getting old, grabbed its paddle and made it's way back to the outside. I got a good look at it as it paddled away. I would put it at around 55 years old with a grey paler to the skin and a clueless look to it's face. I will never forget that morning.
Terrifying. I've seen a lot of sea life playing around. Sea turtles in PR was cool, they hung around for most of the day and were much bigger than i expected. Sharks, dolphins, jellies... got all those. One fall I was out on a medium sized day. Most everyone had just started wearing some sort of neoprene by now. Out of the side of my eye, I see some fat ass dude swimming around in his wetsuite doing belly rolls or flip turns or something. This happens from time to time when a swimmer just decides to see how far he can swim in the lineup. Anyway, I realized he was down for a while and kept looking. He came back up and turns out he was actually a manatee. Last thing, it's unique to the southeast, mainly GA and SC, the dolphins around here will work together to herd baitfish up against the river banks and then beach themselves to eat the fish. I was out on the river one morning and heard lots of splashing and the blowhole sound and got to see them put on a show. We went on the next spot after that because dolphins and fishing do not go well together.
The worst sea life I have seen are surfers. They are ugly, lack any manners, most are homosexuals, and stupid beyond imagination; they reduce the average IQ of sea urchins my 90%. Even salps are smarter than surfers. Look it up, assholes; if you have to, you prove my point......
salp bro, Salps have jet engines and are in family with the most developed inverts (technically chordates, eh?) dont talk ish on Salps, sea squirts or any other chordates u fkn hear me?
here in jerz,I have seen NOTHING!!! lol caught some odd sea lyfe fishing, but never saw anything in the water while surfing or swimming, not even a fish.i got bumped by a fish 1 time in my life and it was in a waterhole in pa. come to think about it I have been attacked by crabs lol, many many times but that's all
I'll tell da wife not to bring it up to her, she was the one who found these vids and showed them to me. And thought I was nuts the next time I went snorkeling up there. But she's used to my lack of sense. I remember you telling me that story...classic.

Snorkeling with a reef in PR and finding an octopus hiding in the reef was pretty cool. Turning around and seeing a school of about six barracudas pointed at me was freaky. The way they'll just sit in the water not moving, it's just weird since everything else in the ocean is in constant motion. I kept exploring the reef but kept an eye on them. I looked back one time and they all had moved over about twenty feet, and were still just sitting still pointing at me. They weren't real big and I didn't have anything flashy on, so wasn't too worried about it but still made me wary. Was out at CB one time and it was flat and I saw a small pod of dolphin so I grabbed the SUP and went to check them out. They'd dive then pop up, almost like playing hide and seek. At one point they came up and stayed and let me paddle right up to them. I noticed they had a pup so I backed off. There were three of them and they put themselves in between me and the pup, but otherwise didn't seem to mind. Eventually they let me get so close I was having to back paddle to keep from hitting their flukes. They let me stick around for about ten minutes then dove and disappeared. My lil one was pissed that she didn't get to go. Wife was tripping a lil bit b\c I ended up way out past the end of the pier. Wish I had my SUP last Nov when we were down and we saw some humpbacks come through and were feeding.
Dayum. I'm guessing that's you guys paddling in the next pic? Looks like a big mofo. What ya think? Aboot 12-14ft? I've seen all kinds of sheet in the ocean and lots of sharks of all types and sizes but never seen a GW, much less have one go full on slaughter like that. That's a 100% legit reason to shat your suite.
Same thing happened to a buddy of mine in college. But he used the special shampoo and got rid of them.
Seen a giant manta breach 2x and land so close to the boat if it had jumped again it would have landed in it. It went under us, came out the other side and breached again. We had a 13ft hammer cruise rt beside us on a perfectly calm, clear day for about 20 minutes rt off Cape Lookout. So close could have reached out and grabbed the fin. We got a big 130lb rig we used for marlin out and dangled a whole squid in front of it, but it wasn't interested. Eventually it went under the boat and you could hear it thumping the boat, checking us out. Came up behind us and followed us for a few more mins then disappeared. Seen a huge schoos of spinners exploding out of the water feeding on a big school of menhaden. We were out of Morehead one time and a big commercial fishing boat dumped all its excess and created a gigantic chum slick. Hundreds of sharks, blues, and everything else showed up and it was one massive buffet feeding frenzy. Somewhere I've got some underwater pics I took when we had a blacktip on the line. It was a super calm, clear day, so as my Dad was fighting it I grabbed a mask and my uncle's camera (he was a diver) and went over and got some cool pics of it. That same day had a pod of dolphin come by and I grabbed the mask and jumped in. Didn't have time to get the camera. They came right by me, I could hear them chattering. In synchronized formation they all at once turned and showed me their bellies, then did a corkscrew 2x, then turned and disappeared. It's probably just hubris, but I swear they put on a lil show for me.
that's not me! I was with those guys earlier! if you look close you can see all the blood they had to wade through! I was the last out and the last 10ft from shore I was like a girl even though it wasn't paying attention to me, it was circling back to the kill and I ended up being pretty close! they estimated it at 14' this guy just got super lucky with that pic! just happened to be focused on that seal when, "wam"...
This treade is bringing back a lot of good memories of time spent on the water with my Pops. I haven't seen as much surfing as out in the boat, but I've had the usual with the occasional fin, dolphin, turtle etc. Bumped various things but never anything big enough to really freak me out. I did have something bump the end of my bort one time when I was out by myself at CB. Was lil chop on the water and one of those grey days where you just get that weird feeling. First time I just told my self it was the way the water was chopping. Second time I told myself I was just imagining things. Third time it actually bounced my arse up off the board. I paddled on in after that. No idea what it was, but three strikes... Another time at CB I had just caught one and turned around to paddle out when I saw the tail fin of a shark disappear in the curl as the wave broke. Judging from the fin it was about 6ft, nothing huge. Not even thinking I chased after it. I was curious what kind it was. I remember thinking to myself, "hey dumba$$, maybe its not the best idea to go chasing after it". But I never been good at listening to reason. Never did catch it or see what it was. I'm just a dumb wookie swinging from tree to tree after all. Keep em coming guys, this treade is A+.
Yeah you can see the blood slick on both pics. That's kinda how I was judging the size, along with the fin. I can imagine how that must have kicked the adrenaline in. And with all that blood in the water you know every other toothy bastige was on its way to that spot too. Thanks for sharing those pics man.
