I find dead hookers all the time on the beach. Course I'm the one who put them there so they are easy to find.
Oh and last week I found Waldo at the beach. He was hiding behind the umbrella that was red and white striped.
If you really want to find a lot of interesting crap, walk the beaches on Sandy Hook nj. You will find everything from fishing tackle to medical waste to all sorts of decomposing organisms. A beach combers dream come true. Viva Raritan Bay!
My kiddos loved "Floatsam" when they were really young and now, at ages 12, 10, 8, and 6, they love surfing. It's all about getting them to the beach and in the waves (preaching to the choir, I know) Another great kids beach book to check out is "The Story of the Sea Glass" by Anne Dodd... Both books worthy of a trip to the library or for gift giving...
A project I'm currently working on for a customer. The seaglass being used was their effort of 20 plus years of beach combing. This is the result so far of 380 hours.
Haha good reply! I'm not really that interested in sea glass- but as I recall, right now until May is pretty much the best time to search for it, until the all the tourist and summer pros show up- they also collect it and it will be gone in a day. Had a friend about 15 yrs ago that use to collect sharks teeth. For real, had like 2 mason jars full from NJ beaches. Said that you had to learn to have the eye for them- and be able to pick it out of a pile of shells. I tried for a little but never found one... My ultimate plan is to save up and buy a nice bench wood planner and take some of the wood that washes up- plane it down and clean it up and make some cool furniture or something.
Thanks Mr. B. Definitely gets old after a while. Luckily I have other work in the house to break up the tedium of it. I get about 8 square inches a day done.
Collected quite a bit of it when we lived in the Ventura/Oxnard CA area years ago. Particularly like the blue glass. Not much sea glass here in VB.
Coolest thing I found is a coke bottle, completely intact, with about 50 years of "sea glassing" on it. I have 3 or 4, 5 gallon buckets full of sea glass from when I lived on the Chesapeake, but that coke bottle is hands down my favorite piece. I'm thinking it could fetch a pretty penny at the right auction. But for now its on the highest, safest shelf at my house.
I was gonna say if you already have 380 hours into it and its about a 1/3 of the way done......Whats that gonna cost the in labor??? $30,000+ depending on how much you charge.......gotta love those kind of cutomers
That coke bottle is probably worth exactly that, a "pretty penny", no more. Maybe you will get the 5 cent deposit for it......
Have you considered putting glass into a rock tumbler? It may not be as authentic but it would probably be faster than walking the beach and gluing a couple pieces to the wall.
So fair it's cost them just shy of $20,000. $35,000 in Labor is a good estimate but who knows. I wouldn't be surprised if it was $40,000 plus. This bathroom as a whole will prob be in the area of $50,000 in labor alone. Yeah I really stepped in dino poo considering there are 4 other baths in house that are priced at time and material with no estimate of time it will take. Take note JohhnyUtah. When you're a decent human doors open and good things happen for you.
Have enough of the real deal. The homeowners found it all from 25+ years of beach combing. I still have to modify some pieces using a wet saw and diamond sanding pads.
O Barry . Knowing these people if it is what he says it is, and truly unique these peeps might spend a few $$$.
