While I'm in full agreement of the dangers of arms being in the wrong hands pose, I feel they're similar to pit bulls - great if you know how to respect and take care of them. I know there are a bunch of Mil brahs in here that have their share of toys. Who else in here hunts, hits the range, or carries for other purposes? What's in your quiver and what works well for your purposes? Laws differ widely for obtaining LTC from state to state and I'm sure there are some on here that got one with the ease of a library card while others had to go through a probationary period when their background checked out fine and they had good reason to bear arms. Let's keep this discussion in the form of sport and hobby and not get political. I'm far more in the public safety mindset and in no way a proponent of violence, so let's keep this thread enjoyable and productive rather than a sounding board for gun control, which is very necessary when legislated properly and fairly. For those of you who have major issues of belief in this domain, it's probably not the thread for you and no one adding to it will likely be out of turn with their statements if they're a sportsman.
I shot feathers...not fur...perfer shooting scatterguns. Like the Brownings o/u's...got several...410-12ga. Fall is the best time of year...upland hunting with the dog...and big uncrowed waves. skeet, trap, sporting clays...it's all good.
Wow man never thought I'd see another trap shooter on here. I used to shoot a lot of trap w/ my Pa, he still does competitively...used to do some bird hunting too. I love shotguns, best home defense weapon. But there's something about putting 30 rounds through a semi-auto rifle that gets my juices flowing. Even though I won't shoot for fun anymore cuz ammo's too scarce.
I enjoy shooting at the range but it's been a minute for sure. Pops use to take me when he had a few of them. I learned to shoot a .22 semi, .38 revolver, 357 S&M revolver (serious gun), and a 9MM Browning, which was probably my favorite. He sold them all off one by one though, and doesn't carry anything at all I don't think. I would love to get one myself but it's not something I feel I need at the same time. Sometimes I think so with all the crime in the area, but I've been doing just fine without one too. Wife isn't a fan of them, but she would probably think differently if we were robbed or held at gunpoint, or even worse. Protection is important, but sometimes it doesn't matter what you carry if you can't get to it fast enough. If there were someone in the movie theater that day when dude went berserker on everybody and mowed down half the families that night maybe some lives could have been saved. Maybe if someone at the Naval Yard had been packing and was quick to use it they could have saves some lives, but then again, maybe not. It's a dicey situation.
It certainly is. I personally don't feel ready to carry a concealed handgun, so I have yet to apply...but I'm all about long guns and would feel vulnerable if I didn't have something in the house. A pump action shotgun is sooo simple and could make all the difference in the world if someone's trying to get into your house. The rifle's stowed away for when the $hit gets really real.
ha, good luck not getting political. You know what? I'll go there for you. Funny how Republicans hate drugs and gays but LOVE their guns, "ain't it?", while the Dems love drugs and gays but want guns to be illegal? Why can't we just have it all? Let's have guns and drugs and be gay (I'm not, but I hope you get what I'm saying)? Why do we have to pick our liberties? We are all going to die from GMOs anyways, why not go out with a bang?
*disclaimer- I love guns, drugs, and have no beef with gays...despite my occassional use of the funny queer not funny ha ha specification. Does that make me libertarian?
I love putting meat on the table but I don't get the opportunity as often as i used to. Now it's mostly a pellet pistol vs. plant destroying squirrels in the back yard. In high school I'd trap furry critters all xmas break to help pay for my spring break surf trips. As far as concealed carry, I don't have a permit yet but plan to in the next few months. I need to visit a range to try different trigger actions (double/single action) and safeties. I grew up with shotguns and I don't think I could get used to not having a safety. I'd be dropping a clip when the sh!t hit the fan instead of taking care of business. So yeah, I'm all for the 2nd amendment. It guarantees the rest will not be infringed upon.
Im all about loooong ranges. Anything over 500 yards to 1000 with my rem 700pss in 308. After that its the lar grizzley in 50 cal.
I once shot a squirrel with a BB gun after pumping it like 10 times. I hit it right in the face. It flopped off the tree, hit the ground with a thud and proceeded to flip out all over the place. When it finally came to rest I used a shovel to toss it lacrosse-style over the fence. Words cannot describe how bad I felt. I've never shot anything since.
I really enjoy shooting skeet. Around here you can go to any of the spoil islands between the ICW and the beach (TI, Lee, Fig8, WB, Mase) and shoot skeet any time of the year, but fall is by far the best. I haven't done it in a couple years and am really itching to get back out there, just fell out of the routine. We use the biodegradable skeet even though they have more tendency to break apart when launched. That said, IMO everyone should own a shotgun. *edit* Within reason of course. I just feel it's important to be familiar with using a gun and either a shotgun or revolver are perfect for doing that.
If I had owned a gun, I would have been in prison a long time ago. Well, look at me being so pessimistic......maybe I wouldn't have gotten caught? Nahh, would have been too drunk to be smooth.......... Don't you gun guys ever get all Lynryd Skynryd drunk and then get pissed-off? I wish someone would shut some dude from Texas up. Spicoli, how come poor minority neighborhoods are so violent? Ain't nothing poorer than whitey in the Appalachians, but they ain't dropping crackers every day. Please explain that. Does urban environments create more violent-prone individuals? Alcohol, guns and pick-up trucks - now that's being a man. AN AMERICAN MAN. Oh yeah, eatin' beef, too. Now that's manly stuff. And Studlee, that's what I always say......aboot gays, drugs and guns............. Legalize it all and let God sort it out. Everything is illegal in this country yet we keep calling ourselves free. I don't need a damn law to cross a friggin street. I love you, Spicoli.
They were given high density housing with hopes that the HIV and/or crack would wipe them all out. If only I could have been in the FBI/CIA in the 60's... they had all the fun.
Not to get sidetracked, but this is a widely documented conspiracy theory. Supposedly, crack was facilitated into these projects with that specific purpose....during the War on Drugs.
