It's like when you're at the doctor's office. Don't ask the question unless you're ready to hear the answer.

It was your decision to bring scrutiny to my personal and professional life based of thin slices of my time expenditure as indicated by an online forum.

Three words back at you, but we will have fun and make this a puzzle since you like the suspense of trying to figure out answers that are meaningless to your life.

Three words similar in composition to those three you used: "_ _ _ _ _ _ yourself"

I agree. It's always been crowded. But it's always the same places. There are good crowded spots and good empty spots. It will always be, and always has been, that way... It definitely gets more "popular" and then fades over the years.

Happy to stroll down to RI and meet up face to face so you can learn more about me as apparently you\'re quite interested in my life that has nothing to do with yours. That, and we can solve the issue of your regular comments of condescension. There\'s lots of \"fun\" ways to modify behavior.

To the "holier than thou" crowd (it seems to be replicating itself in number here):

Take a look at the origin of these threads that seem to so very much irk you. Then look at the elements that progress them into mutated, off-topic horsecrap.

This thread was geared towards a topic of ocean hydrodynamics that is very much appropriate for a surfing forum. The original post has zero aim or attention towards anyone's outside life or ego.

Any one of a number of subsequent posts immediately derailed the content from said objective and decayed it into the cesspool that most web forums quickly become.

There's clear irony in the claims from these posters that "their surfing forum" is being infected with waste, when they are sowing the seeds of hate, tilling the soil with derision, and harvesting the crap themselves.

Ha, this guy really can't fight the battles he picks. I wonder who castrated him, his mother years ago or his lovely significant other in the current day.

You are a sad, shell of a boy, crackedinri. To not shoulder the weight of the situations you provoke, have a chance to avoid through a humorous response by your intended target diverting from and not engaging the conflict (earlier in this thread), provoke once again, get responded to privately instead of publicly (because your decisions shouldn't be anyone else's problem on here), then try and cower behind your fellow narrow-minded brethren.

Yes, people. We live in a society where what you say and do has consequences. Even if this presidential regime and nation says how you decide to act is not your fault.

To those of you shooting your mouths off to people you don't know behind the guise of an internet forum handle: go to Bridgeport, CT and say anything like this out loud to the commoners of that town, who you likewise know nothing about and who've done nothing to insult or harm you. Come back to us and report the results.

Scrutiny? Seriously? I wrote that I wonder what you do for a living because you seem to have an awful lot of spare time on your hands between your exorbitant forum posting and surfing. You've been on this forum for a month or so and your word count is probably higher than every other forum member combined (except for PJB and gaffer maybe - no offense, guys).

You say that you'll "have the decorum and appropriateness not to accept the invite to the **** measuring contest" while essentially dropping your pants bragging about where you're "posted up" and how many "co-eds" are on the beach, while denigrating me and assuming I'm an anxiety-riddled corporate slave. You don't know me or my work situation. I've never written anything about it, so I don't understand where you see this invitation you speak of. Maybe I'm rolling like NJShred or maybe I work at McDonald's and have 5 kids to support or maybe I'm an over-anxious corporate slave.

You seem like an intelligent person, but for the most part, your posts consist of 500 words of vacuous drivel with about 15 words of anything meaningful. Please, go back and read over your last month's worth of posts. Read them out loud to a friend and ask him if you sound like an pretentious ***. Shoot for brevity in the future - everybody reading this forum will thank you for it.

Maybe it is meaningless, but maybe I'm looking for a career change and was seriously wondering what you did that allowed you to seemingly have so much free time on your hands at the ripe old age of 30something. Yeah, I asked the question, but I didn't get an answer...only another truckload of drivel.

    Their, they're, there.

I wouldn't call it BA per se. Or any place worth visiting or passing through. But it is the most densely populated city in CT and has a crime rate 9x the national average. Following the Industrial Revolution, it was a thriving metropolis and more or less a place to be. That fell apart in the last 50 years, probably worse than say a Pittsburgh.

The reason I used Bridgeport is that it was mentioned in other threads the last couple days and it's fairly representative of the extremity of self-policing human nature that meager sheltered folk like crackedinri are insulated from ever having to be part of or experience. Hence, my suggestion that much could be learned by he and some other audacious others on here by "taking their game to the streets" where there's no place to hide when your mouth writes a check your body can't cash. But hey, who needs to be a man in this world when your domineering mother or suburban lawyer can shield you from or get you out of any mess your arrested development puts you in?

Re-read my post that started this thread. Is it vacuous drivel? Or is it within the realm of what a surfing forum should have? It's 6 sentences of a pertinent topic that all can understand and it invited the unique input and perspective of others. Pretty much a functional post of any forum.

What are vacuous are posts that derail otherwise functional forum threads into debate and investigation of members' professional lives. Is this a job search forum or career building forum? Is it a time management forum? In hindsight, was putting my occupation and sum of free time under a microscope at all of value to this thread, this forum, and its members?

How many words is this post so far? If less than 500, and you get the point, I'd call me the control, you the variable, and your "getting the point" in less than 500 words "PROGRESS".

WOW... I was actually asking a question. Not even being sarcastic (I know it's hard to tell the difference between sarcastic comments and real questions)
And you go all grammar police on me? Great job buddy. You got me

nynj, wasn't at all jumping down your throat. Like you said, it's difficult to discern tone from the written word. I said it casually as misuse of heterographs happens to be a pet peeve of mine. Zero intention to call you out. Was more of an aside before I took the time to answer your question about Bridgeport.

In what way? By commenting on and adding to threads that are intended to be off-topic or are steered off-topic? Or by choosing to finally engage these flamethrowers even if I've ignored their first 5 provocations?

If it's the first, then I never said there's no place for off-topic posts in a forum. That's part of any good web forum, especially when we have lots of witty fellow surfers on here that can be a source of well-shared humor and also discussion of other outside experiences that are mutually shared by the members here.

If it's the second, I try to ignore the needless instigation as much as humanly possible. At a certain point, the self-respect kicks in and something's got to be done to curtail the BS, especially when it wasn't prompted or called for.

I don't recall ever complaining about people not talking about surfing on here. As can be seen, I like talking about outside topics just as much as surfing, because of the good and smart people that are patrons of this forum. My main issue is the hijacking of an otherwise functional thread by personal attacks or just pure ignorance that grows like wildfire to the peanut gallery surrounding the audience. You can see the difference from one thread to another. There are some on here that progressively veer off course and in a non-confrontational way, then there are others where people bring up cliché anecdotes or start asking what people do for a living and quantifying their free time.

You have got to be the most un-Spicoli like person to ever use the moniker. Keep writing your essays. You post every single day about some new thing you learned about surfing like you've discovered electricity.

You want to get this thread back on track, stop responding to everyone who derails it, including me, with a farking essay about how he's wrong and you're right. You don't want to talk about what you do for a living, don't respond to me with an essay about how you're better than me because you work for yourself and you think I'm a corporate slave.

Yes, swells often come from multiple directions and combine to form waves that are different than waves from swells from only one direction. So, how do you figure out where to sit when the swell is coming in at 3.3987 ft from 175.5 at 9.278s and 2.6983 ft from 110.339 at 15.833s? Simple, you observe and adjust as things demand it. There's no magic formula or tip that is going to answer all of your questions. You can come up with all the formulas and rules you want to, but in reality, the ocean is too fluid, with too many variables to try and model or predict every possible scenario. Go out and surf...have fun, stop overanalyzing it. Or keep overanalyzing it...whatever you want.
