About for 2 summers now I have been surfing and kiting this spot . No one is every there , other then the one's that i have dragged along with me to prove this jewel is real . Its a pain in the arse to get there , jetski or boat . When your heading out the inlet in washing machine of cross swell , your kinda immersed by walls of white water and timing the swell right to make it out , go around the point and there it is an empty left , that probably goes for 500 ft or so . To take adventure to find an empty wave to surf and actually find one , its so refreshing . Revives that love for the mistress (ocean). Solidarity in the kaos of summer folk . Has anyone found a hidden jewel in nj , if so im willing to let in a few in on this , because it might have potential for real big swell and need some folks that really want to commit and take a chance on this spot .
this was a head high day but barely breaking on this bar . sorry for quality of photo , but sitting in the channel on a jetski taking photo with an I phone in a water proof bag not the best photo
I have also explored by boat in and around inlets and found something similar but its actually a right that breaks towards the sand for 200m +. I've seen it barrel but it only works when big and its sketch taking my boat out. But yea there's something about looking for a new wave and finding one
Barnegat light Shoals is hardly a secret spot. And yes it's more suited for kite surfing than surfing.
"Barnegat light Shoals is hardly a secret spot. And yes it's more suited for kite surfing than surfing." the photo was not BL .But Bl does come alive on a big south swell , when most spots are closing out , real fun on the outside , but the inside hammers you right on the beach . if you live on lbi , you should know of where im talking of . I should rephrase secret to uncrowded ,rarely surfed .
I envy you guys up north , rock reefs , somewhat of point breaks , contour of the land works great with swell , your right nj is flat chested in that sense , but when its firing, its real good , maybe not the biggest wave , but it does hand it to you on occasion .
its not a 'secret' nor a 'spot' - it's simply a mushy ole'man wave that no one bothers with - fyi surfin - google maps, boats, jetski's, bottom contour maps and the "www" have clearly taken away the guess work...and that was years ago...and YES, your NEVER alone - big brother has eyes in the dunes!
I need to find the picture but on instagram there is a picture of a guy surfing a solid 25 foot wave in the atlantic off NY and he's a well known big wave surfer. Wonder how many spots are out there waiting to be found.
Nice work. If you have it by yourself or with a couple of buds, then let it be your secret spot. Even with the latest tech and "info" most guys don't want to put in the time or effort to seek out new spots. I sometimes get in the habit of checking the same spots and going back to my old stand bys. In 2014 I want to get back to exploring a bit. Its always cool to do some homework and find a new spot. Cheers and have fun!
why is there such a battle of who's waves the best , just enjoy surfing , the stoke of the ocean . Surf everything , everywhere on anything you can . I do hate crowds , and that why I search for those empty breaks early spring to late summer . ever since sandy that bar has changed, depth charts and all , a deep channel runs right along that bar . , plus its one of the spots on lbi that the beach has not been touch by replenishment . And if a few more showed up to surf , if they made the hike then its there wave to . even if its big brother , had him launch my kite for me , didn't put one foot print on that on that closed beach .
nope , but I been trying to explore that whole general area . I referring to the south point of hg . I know its not secret , but rarely surfed and its been magic the few times I have went out there . just fun ..
